ASDA fairtrade is a good value, and Sainsbury's Red Label is fairtrade as well. Just remember that ultra-cheap tea is a false economy and a few pennies more ensures that farmers are getting paid real market prices for their crop!

Can't really tell the difference but I'm a milky, sugarry tea-drinker.

Asda Gold are really good. I've just bought 260 Yorkshire tea ones at Morrisons for £3 instead 0f £6. They are really strong!

Sainsburys Basics is Fairtrade, and, having tried them all, I think is the best out of the supermarket value teas (I assume Sainsburys must subsidise it as a loss leader, or else other companies are ripping us off by charging such a premium for Fairtrade).

Hubby loves the Coop FairTrade tea bags (red box) and they often have FairTrade offers on.

I have ASDA-brand fairtrade at home, but I'll try Sbury's next time - I didn't know their Basics were fairtrade, but that's great that they're willing to trade at a loss to up their reputation as an ethical shop! :T Wish other stores did the same.

  • I'm on the side of loose leaves as well - so much better and I simply can't go back to bags at home now (although it you really want a treat, go for a brand like teapigs - the ones in the nylon bags).

Tea bags are made from what are called the "fannings" or the "dust" from tea leaves (mmm lovely). Not such a tasty brew now eh?

The rule is the larger the leaf, the better quality the tea. Plus with loose tea you make it as strong as you want it. Buy a pot with an in-built filter or get a strainer and bin the leaves - don't wash them down the sink.

If you want to branch out try Sainsbury's ange - lots of different teas from around the world or Booths all for around £1.20 .

If you fancy trying something different try the Twinings Keemun bags or Sainsbury's own brand China tea (comes in a red packet) - a very malty distinct tea - if you love it won't want to go back.

I buy my tea bags from either Farmfoods, Pounland or B &M Bargains, you get 100 PG and Typhoo for £1 in farmfoods/poundland and 240PGTips for £2 in home bargains Always use my brothers motto - never pay more than a penny a teabag....

There are no teabags that equal the quality of the best loose leaf teas.
