    btw - My credit limit on the Halix was £11.5k (only used a fraction of it!) - so I have been considered a good risk in the recent past - though Halifax are probably easy aren't they?

    Hmmm interesting :)

    Over the last couple of years this is what I found:
    Tesco - terrible credit limit - lowest I have EVER been given for any card and they would not allow me to appeal.
    Egg - have a loan with them that I usually overpay on, had a card that was closed over 18 monts ago - tried to get a new one few months back and was turned down.
    First Direct MBNA - gave me a card in the blink of an eye limit of £6500.
    Amex - had nearly a year now - again got approved for cashback card straightaway and got a pretty high limit on it - I lowered this myself about 6 months ago and it's paid off every month.

    For some unknown reason I always get approved for the hard to get cards and never for the "easy" ones or they give me a low limit :)

    Couple of years ago when I applied for my Egg loan I was turned down and appealed - I had to speak to the underwriters appeals team and took about 45 minutes. She went through my credit file and my monthly statement of affairs and couldn't believe that being as I was sat in my car at the time at the side of a road I could reel off my exact montly bills etc and then we had a 10 minute chat about irresponcible lending etc and MSE and DFW and eventually she said that it's very rare for these decisions to be overturned but she was happy to do so in my case and if everyone understood their finances as well as I did then there would be a lot less people in economic trouble... Yes I DID gloat ;)

    My advice with appealing would be to know your finances to the penny and be very honest with them about anything.

    Deffo use a really good covering letter and include as much corrospondence as possible i.e

    * Wage slips
    * Bank statements
    * Current credit card statement
    * Credit reports

    Ring them before the appeal and ask why they declined you, you can then use the reason they gave and tailor the information you provide!

    Good luck tho!
