Gone up to £1.50 a kilo though.0 -
Costco sell various varieties of Basmati. Can't tell you the cost but as a comparison a 10kg sack of Thai Fragrant Rice costs £9.99 in Costco and £13.50 in See Woo and up to £16.50 in smaller Chinese supermarkets. Basmati is more expensive than Thai Fragrant Rice or American Long Grain. The man without a signature.0

Hi there :-)
We use a load of Basmati at home as my darling OH is fromn South Asia and I cook lots of Asian food.
We use Tesco Value Basmati as a baseline price check (£1.50/kg) and check that against other brands. Asian Cash & Carry places may do it cheaper and nicer quality per kg but at the moment the price of Basmati is univerally high everywhere.
If it's any consolation Tesco Value Basmati gives good results and is quite tasty. We have 5 x 1kg bags stashed in the cupboard whch should last us a few weeks - we hope!:rotfl:0 -

Nope, was gonna get some on monday, got long grain instead - that's under £1 still.0 -
Tesco have 5kg bags of Apna Basmati rice for £4.99 (special offer marked on bag). Tried cooking with it and it is very nice, does not break up or go mushy. Tesco.com also do the 10g bags for £9.50, but I haven't seen this in store.0

Ta for the tip :-) I'm going to see if my local store has it for home delivery!
Edit: just been to look it's "A Fusion of Long Grain Rice & Basmati Rice" which means it's basmati cross bred (often accidentally) with long grain stickier rice. Still nice but not pure basmati.0
