nice one donald, because your pension is knackered so should everyone elses!!

i dont even work for a council.

Lets be fair, these people deserve their pensions, binmen, cleaners etc all work very hard for very little money.

average pension is only £3600 a year and for women £1800

It is the public sector pensions that are knackered. No one is saying that people should not retire on a good pension what we are saying is that they should meet the full cost of that provision themselves and not expect the taxpayer to cover the shortfall as is now happening. There is currently a £35BN black hole in local council pension funds alone so how is that not "knackered".

We all work hard for our money....no council worker is paid the minimum wage unlike over 1 million in the private sector.........even catering assistants in LG can earn up to FTE £15,000pa (plus another 20% into their pension).

    http://jobs.telegraph.co.uk/job/222934-part-time-east-sussex-catering-assistant.aspx

Crikey, that's not bad for working in a caff. No prev experience required.

The average pension fund value for the majority of private sector workers not in FS scheme is less than £25,000 which is equivalent to a pension of around £1,000pa (much lower since collapse of stockmarket and annuity rates).

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1082511/Browns-17-000-tax-raid-EVERY-private-pension--value-cushy-public-sector-schemes-soars-1trillion.html

These are the very same people who are expected to underwrite 'gold-plated' public sector pensions for doctors, teachers, civil servants, catering assistants etc....many of whom are paid considerably more salary.

The Government URGENTLY has to do something about encouraging people to save for their old age rather than treating any such savings as their own piggy bank.

THe new Government backed national pension will do little to help - and will probably just accelerate the demise of the few half decent private schemes. Employers, obliged to make payments into the plan, will simply deduct the contribution from any pay award at around that time.

I am inclined to be more charitable about bin men than other public servants because they do something useful for society. But lets not go over the top here. According to Wikki answers, bin men earn £30-50k a year. That seems like a very good crack when they seem to work short hours and the machines do most of the hard work.

Actually my charitable feelings towards bin men are evaporating rapidly as I recall those SOBs who used to empty bins at a previous address. I swear they used micrometers to check our bin lids. If one lid was more than 0.1 mm above the base, the lorry would dissapear in a huff and the whole the whole street got punished. On one occasion they did it to us two weeks in a row. When everyone's blood pressure was off the scale, the local council agreed to send out a lorry as a 'one off special favour'. Who can wonder why I get apoplectic at the very mention of public services these days.

And who says that Wiki isn't a reliable trustworthy source of evidence hey?

Actual salaries. Looks like you start on 11k and work your way up to 25k as a supervisor.

I think this has do do with self certs - I think every one has started to believe the self cert figure they gave, and, chuffed with their pay rise, began spreading the word about how rich they are, which made other people, in a fit of pique, give themselves mental payrises, and everyone else around them...bin men? 50k; single mothers? 75k and a house; immigrants? 125k, three houses and all the jobs.

I have no idea what a bin man gets paid, but it can't be a nice job and everybody sure complains when they don't turn up or when economies are made by putting them fortnightly.

Glad you bring some realism to this Cleaver.

However, it's not unusual for a private sector LGV lorry driver to earn 35 - 40k.

    <lol> haha your pensions rubbish<lol>

Don't blame the public sector because you lost out...
No my pension isn't "rubbish." I'm very well off thank you very much.:p
Just trying to defend my wealth so that it doesn't all get invested in the benefits/pensions pyramid scheme.
And we'll all see what happens to public sector pension provision. A choke point is coming and sooner or later it's gonna happen. They will get reeled in. (Hopefully sooner)

I'll be one of the first ones to post up, I told you so. Mark my words.

You sound quite joyless and bitter and full or rage. Did something happen as a child? It's okay if you want to chat. We're all nice and won't judge. Sit down. Share with us.

So you "admittedly" are very well off and have a good pension. However you still feel the need to "defend your wealth so that it doesn't all get invested in the benefits/pensions pyramid scheme"? Come on share some of the wealth.

So what exactly is your problem? Your basically moaning about paying taxes really, aren't you. Boo Hoo. Nice One! How about writing a post about all those sick people in hospital causing us to pay more taxes. We could lower taxes by getting rid of the NHS too. in fact lets get rid of all public services and pay no tax. You sound like a really kind generous guy.

You also say you will be the first to post when "the choke point" occurs. Whilst at the same time linking to an article about a large public pensions fund shortfall. Excellent work, are you a mind reader? Larger pension shortfall, likely to be problems in the future? The leap of deduction you made there was genius. Please post when it happens to remind us how brilliant your are.

This is nothing new it happened in the private sector and now its caught up in the public sector. It unfortunately something we have to deal with as a society as people live longer and the number of workers in the population decreases in relation to pensioners.

I think you should count yourself lucky that you are well off and have a good pension. Many don't and the taxes you pay go towards making the distribution a little more even.

In your next post please remember. To remind us how foreigners are taking British jobs, Single moms are getting pregnant to for a council house placement. The country has gone to pot since the old days and how we should all bring back national service and vote BNP. :j

PS: Any bin men that earn 50k per year? Please PM me and tell me how you did it as I am interested in a job.

Thought binmen jobs were now private sector - that's why pay is low.

I'm sure if they were still LA, rates would be considerably higher.
