You've all given me some good advice here, and given me a lot to think about
Will let you know if I hear from the LL this weekend
I appreciate you taking the time to post

i absolutely agree about the locks - as long as the original locks are in place when you move on, the LL can have no issue with that.0

I do no know what is in my daughter's contract!! The EA seems to allow anybody to come and do any repair when she is not in, it is handy as she does not have to take time off. I just wonder whether this is the norm? Recently EA came and do the 6 month's visit without her presence. Thanks0

The fact this guy didnt turn away immediately when he saw just your 16 year old daughter indoors rings alarm bells. He either fails to see its inappropriate or there is something more sinister behind it all.
For a grown man not to want to avoid the situation just to avoid the possibility of it being deemed as inappropriate makes me wonder.0 -
maybe he is simply thick0

I am a Landlord in similar cercumstances to your situation. All my apartments are self contained and for some years I issued AST agreements. However, my District Council (I cannot remember why now) infortmed me that the AST were not legal, as I was considered to be a resident landlord, i.e. all the Tenants are sharing my home. At my request, the Council confirmed this in writing and I changed all the contracts to "Resident Landlord" giving me the right in law to enter the apartments at any time, to evict without serving the legal notices and many other advantages (to me).
I always fully explain all this to poential future Tenants and fortunately my present Tenants and I are always on good terms. Just because he is a Landlord dosn't mean he is a pervert.0 -
She's 16 and being a retired Engineer and happy to complete repaires quickly I would like to think he is a good, responsible Landlord. Mind you, I conceed he should be doing gas or electric unless he has the required qualifications. Maybe he has those as well.0

It does not matter how old she is, she is a minor. Just because he is a retired engineer, doesn't mean he cant be a pervert. I would not want my daughter alone in a flat with anybody I did not know fully.
All our contractors would refuse to enter a property with a young woman without the parents permission in writing, even then they are not happy.
He should not be touching Gas or Electric without the relevant qualifications, and I doubt he has those, due to the cost !
I would look to move, the fact that a neighbor has seen fit to speak to you about this matter should ring alarm bells. I would write to the landlord stating you do not give permission for him to enter the property at anytime other than with a minimum of 48hrs with the agreement of you and your husband, on no account should he ask your daughter for arrangements or access.
Good luck with looking for somewhere else, just make the time you are spending at the property safe.Be-littling somebody only make's you look a bully.Any comments I make on here are my opinions, having worked in the lettings industry, and through life.0
