Martin, i realise i might have come into this discussion a little late in the day, but its been bugging me for months now and ive thought long and hard about posting it, but atm there is only really discussion time or the arms for general discussion, one by definition, is for discussion, the other, well, its a pub, and can be a little intimidating, and ive seen many a poster just looking for support on a different board, then their thread gets moved to the arms and theyre distraught. To me, if a community deserves a pub, then it is also deserving of a coffee shop where we could mull over the lesser issues of the day without the pubb-ish banter, if that makes sense (and not wishing to accuse anybody here!!!) How possible would it be for us to have our own "Starquids" ( as against Starbucks, lol) cafe corner please? Pretty please. :A"It is not uncommon for slight acquaintances to get married, but a couple really have to know each other to get divorced." - Anonymous0

Please, please, please can we have a dedicated 'art and craft moneysaving' board - perhaps within the home and families section. At the moment there are lots of art and craft type things dotted all over the place as there is no logical single place to post them. I realised that as I was loitering mostly in the Old Style board reading these sort of posts I had missed lots of fantastic ideas posted in the Special Ocassions board. I even found some great stuff in the Silver Savers board (even though I am not one yet), as well as the board for environmental stuff (can't remember what it's called right this moment) - lots of great ideas for making stuff out of recycled materials.
The new board could be called something like 'Making and Saving'. It could become a really useful repository for information, instructions and ideas.0 -
The mystery shopping thread is currently far too busy -- there's no way I can keep up with all the posts on it each day, and as there's only one thread for every possible mystery shopping issue, most of it is irrelevent, too.
It'd be really useful to have a whole sub-forum for mystery shopping, so users can help each other out with problems they know about, without being overwhelmed by information irrelevent to them.0 -
Can I make a plea to keep the Anything Else board please.
Sometimes there are random things that don't really fit any of the other boards and this is the perfect place for them IMHO
Other proposals look good to me

I shall be glad when the "Theatre, Concert & Events Tickets. To be sub-board of renamed Days Out board" arrives as Grabbit is currently getting swamped with posts about, or worse still requests for codes for, the Michael Jackson concert
Please hurry up and do that one so we can get back to seeing the real urgent bargains on grabbit without having to wade through these sort of posts
In the meantime could a grabbit board guide go through and clear all those request or concert code posts out please?0 -
Please move the diaries away from the debt advice on the DFW board. They are distinct in character, though both could come under the dfw umbrella.
I'm much more interested in those seeking advice and those posts seem to get quickly pushed away by the diary-type posts.0 -

For the last 5 years I've been on another forum which seems to use the exact same format as MSE -- it;s vBulletin -- and so I'm wondering if one feature of that forum could be adopted here: posting on a thread is an automatic subscription to that thread.
Perhaps I'm spoiled from that forum, but I often forget to subscribe when I post on MSE, and then I wonder why there have been no follow-ups, and then the penny drops and I go and look for the thread. It's no big deal, but this is such a huge forum threads do get buried very quickly so it means a search for my own posts.
I don't know if other people forget to subscribe, but I think that many newbies probably don't realise they have to if they want to find a thread easily after posting.
Totally agree - it's a time thing, even if you know to do it, (& I also often forget!), it takes a ceratin amount of time to do, which for busy people may be more time than they are willing to spend...
arunadasi's suggestion would be a very good usability improvement as it's almost a no-brainer that if you post on a thread , you will be interested in the follow-ups.
Speaking as a developer who will shortly be implementing a forum on to a website shortly and is faced with a morass of options for a forum plugin, I have to say I do like vBulletin... but maybe there's a limit to customisation of the publicly available scripts and it's time for the MSE web team to start thinking about rolling their own? - lot of work, but this is a unique and valuable site and it would be nice to see the forum take on it's own individual "look and feel", which would maybe allow for greater , more fit for purpose, customisation.
And yes, "here there be tygers..." esp. realting to forum security etc.
Anyway, time to say, whatever the format/changes - absolutely love these forums and really must get back to work (dammit - you've done it again..)0 -
The option is there in your User CP. Just go to Edit Options on the left and choose the type of notification you would like from the drop-down menu.

Edited to add: oops, tiptoe has already said this. Ignore me!
Arrgghh! just realised my recent post replying to this issue http://http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=19444915#post19444915 is now semi-redundant - but then ... being an more infrequent poster (but avid reader!) I would be less aware of this option - maybe it should be a tick box when posting on the thread "subscribe to this thread" to make it really easy & obvious? (and defaulted to yes)0 -
Please make on old style diaries sub forum...the mods on there do a great job of keeping that busy board all tidy and organised but don't/can't allow people to start diaries and I'd love to read peoples OS journeys.0

Can I ask for separate boards for English/Welsh, Scots, and Northern Irish property buying and selling to avoid the confusion where people give answers that may not be applicable because they have assumed (usually) the property is in England/Wales.
See this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=19654715#post19654715
where OP asked a question about legal fees on a transfer of equity and an answer came back with what the poster was charged and he added (helpfully as it turned out) that it was in London so could be higher than normal. This led to OP saying he was in Scotland. A Scots poster then gave a much higher figure as his experience. Had the first reply not mentioned London then possibly nobody would have known it was in Scotland.
If you had a separate board for Scotland then OP would have used it and got answers from Scots.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0
