Hi Martin ~ Here is my own opinion on the dfw issue.
Before when this has come to light I have been all against the changes. However now I feel spliting the board would be very useful and now overdue. I 'used' to be a very regular poster on the dfw board but not now because of the forum. The problem is its so busy over there and you have to actually search for newbie posts to try and help them out. So now I have subscribed to the diarys I visit and never go into the dfw board.
I understand about the traffic issue that if people arnt on the main board searching/reading diarys then no newbies are going to be answered. Well that is the case for me just now because I dont go on the main board at all. I dont class myself as an expert but I used to love giving advice and tips to newbie, now I dont, which is a shame on my part and to the newbies.
Anyway I hope we can find a solution0 -
All sounds good to me, how about a 'Dealing Withthe DCAs Board'?
:D stay wonky

Ebays, Auctions, Carboot and Jumble Sales - seems to be completely over-run by ebay related questions. PLEASE can you split off carboot and jumbles - and then people might actually post info about these! It has been requested before - but never happened."When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0

Just a quick post to register my 'tuppence...
I think splitting the DFW dairies into their own board is a great idea, they're not being banned, they're just being moved into a sub-board and any new posts will show up as though they're in the DFW board when you are on the initial forum page. It's not really any sort of hardship to click on the 'DFW Diary' sub-board link from inside the DFW board surely?
I think creating a new Bankruptcy board is a great idea. There are different strategies from being a DFW and being a BR and there has been friction between these two camps in the past.
I agree with everyone else that moving the Pensions board out of Pure money is a mistake. Final Salary pensions are a thing of the past, most people will have Money Purchase pensions that have the same investment options as S&S ISAs. Pensions should therefore be moved into a Savings, Investments and Pensions board.
I think we have too many separate Housing related boards. Currently we have Mortgage Free Wannabe, Mortgages & Endowments, House Buying, Renting and Selling, House Prices - Economy & Recession. These should be sub-boards under a general "Property" or "Housing" board.
In fact, the House Prices, Economy & Recession board should be moved completely out of MSE and onto the House Price Crash website where it belongs. Thats where most of the posters seem to come from. This board attracts more of the strangest, most rude and most disruptive posters than the rest of the MSE boards put together. It has no Money Saving aspect (apart from the trite 'We save you money because we stop you buying a house in a falling market' comment the regulars serve up). The MSE forums are intended for like-minded people who want to share financial tips or to learn how to manage their finances better, it does not exist as a place to go to argue with strangers, to make thinly disguised racist comments about immigrants (as often happens, especially when the jobless figures are released**) or to put people down because they're unfortunate enough to be in negative equity, to be reposessed or to be struggling to pay their mortgage.
If there was one change you could make to the MSE forums that would improve it, removing that particular board would be it! If people want to discuss general topics such as the economy then they can do it in the Moneysaving Arms or in Discussion Time.

Hi folks,
I have to say my current thinking is to do a trial split of the diaries into a sub board of DFW but not a DMP sub-board as i think once diaries are split out that'll give more breathing space to breath.
Im intending to call it
Debt Free Diaries: Trial Board
To start with to make it clear its not permanent, and to try it for a month.
As people will appreciate theres a rash of views on it - and either way someone will be unhappy. I hope you'll be ok to let us give it a try.

So, what is wrong? Do I have to sign up for automatic subscription, or what?0 -

Ah, thank you, that answers my question.0 -

I think its a sensible compromise to trial a diaries area. Im sure that once people get used to it, they'll prefer it.
What about the HPC board, can we get rid of that or at least move it to the Arms or to Discussion Time, perhaps as a sub-board? Newbies who are worried about reposessions, losing their jobs or who are struggling to pay their mortgages are attracted by the board title and venture in there for help/advice and are then met with a wall of abuse from 'holier than thou' HPC nutters who should have no place within MSE. It gives a poor impression of MSE and I would imagine that many newbies leave and never come back, taking their problems with them, because of the reception they receive in that forum. Most of the regular/decent MSE users call it the 'ghetto' and don't venture in there.0 -
I was just going to say go to tiptoes post as I got it wrong
I must have set that setting so long ago I forgot about it and just assumed it was automatic.
Sorry for the confusion:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Martin,
I am glad we are going to have a trial Diaries sub-board. We want to see it work like that and a lot of people think this will be the only way to prove it's the wrong thing to do
