Sorry but wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. If you're a cash buyer, you've got the upper hand when looking for a property. Avoid this one like the plague.
  • however, these guys:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/southern_counties/4586170.stm

    live directly opposite. <snip>

I found this link to an earlier news item about these lads:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/southern_counties/4582076.stm

seems they were initially given an interim ASBO whilst social services were sent in to work with the family to 'give them a chance' to sort themselves out.

The fact that the judge has since imposed full ASBOs on them and made their names public would make me very wary of living anywhere near them.

From the reports it looks like it's their direct neighbours and folks in the street they live on who have been having to put up with broken windows, phonecalls with threats to kill etc.

I hope the OP has reconsidered buyingh the house.

As others have said, if they were a cash buyer with £300k in the bank they can buy something a lot better in the current climate.
  • we've made the decision not to buy the house - thankyou everyone for your opinions!

We're looking at another house today... wish us luck!

Have to agree with the majority of posters here. Notwithstanding that no one should have to put up with abuse etc from others, especially their neighbours, the sad fact is that we now live in an age where the lowlives seem to have more rights than those of us who behave responsibly and with consideration for others

The irony is that they largely have no respect for anyone and yet bandy the word 'respect' about all the time and demand it from everyone they meet.

As a police officer, I know from bitter experience exactly how difficult it is to deal with the neighbour disputes that can arise in these cases. Although I suspect that my supervisors would be upset that I would dare to say this publicly, the sad truth is that the law (I use the term generically) is completely unable to afford law abiding people the protection they deserve as there are - in my opinion - more support networks available to you if you are a cheating, thieving waste of skin and air than if you are someone whom tries to do the right thing.

Sorry to sound negative (thats 27 years of policing or you I'm afraid) but you have the option to not get involved. I strongly suggest that you take it.

Good luck - I hope you can find an alternative home soon!

Absolutely the right decision not to buy. It is always a bit of a lottery what your neighbours are like, but you were lucky in knowing before you bought. How many people say, "I wouldn't have bought this house if I'd known..." ?

Good luck with your other viewings. A quick google will find countless stories of people attacked by yob neighbours. You can change most things about a house but not it's location - there are bound to be better opportunities.

At least you found out in advance. Looking at the OP I was expecting to see a cheap terrace, but it's £320k detached!

One of the thing about having money is you can afford to pay not to live next door to scumbags, people normally end up with scum as neighbours because they can't afford to move. Doing so voluntarily is indeed madness.

To be honest mate I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. If you don't buy you'll probably never know bad it might be, but if you do you may think somewhere down the line "why was I so blooming stupid" (no offence!)

It's not as bad as it looks. There's a great sense of community (mostly!) and like I said, toddler groups galore! There are several good primary schools, it's not far from Brighton for shopping, and it's on the train line.

I live in the Denton area at the moment, but I've also lived in the town and it's really not as bad as it looks. I grew up in London and it makes a nice change.

I'm afraid the house we viewed today wasn't right for us. It's in a lovely rural location, neighbours seemed nice, but the house wasn't what we were looking for and was overpriced. However, we still have a lot to look at. We've only looked at 2 houses so far.
