Nationwide have really disapointed me

Tis on the BBC site - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7925487.stmI dont suppose Nationwide will suffer that much from their latest stunt, probably 99% of the population dont read this site, and will remain with their bank either through loyalty or apathy.
Little hidden though0 -
99% of the population don't even know their credit or debit card is stiffing them to the tune of up to 3%, or that they pay two or three times that (at best) if they do what most people do and take cash when they go, because it's allowed to be advertised as 'commission-free' - and they believe it.I dont suppose Nationwide will suffer that much from their latest stunt, probably 99% of the population dont read this site, and will remain with their bank either through loyalty or apathy. Whenever I try to tell non-MSE's they could be getting better deals from another bank, I usually get "Oh but I have always been with my bank, like mum and dad before me"
At least we know the sums, and Nationwide's sums still add up to the best deal for me overall.0 -
Nope and nope.Gutted - this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back in seeing my return home
Am currently in Oz and have been for 18 months but recession has hit everywhere and am struggling to find work - they're keeping jobs for Australian Citizens and residents amid media complaints of 'migrant workers' stealing jobs. I can't get any form of credit here due to not being a resident and have been living off my NW credit card and O/D in order to pay rent and buy food. These additional charges plus the increased overdraft rate are going to f*** things right up.
Nice of Nationwide to actually let its customers know - I've had an account with them since I was 11 and stuck by them as their e-savings and ISAs aren't bad rates (evern if they're not quite top) and I've spent lots of time living o/s and travelling.
Don't really know what to do...
Are any other accounts better? Can I even open a new account whilst overseas? Probably not.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
There might be some good news for those of you (like me) who use the Flexaccount as your main account for day to day banking....i called them up this morning and asked them why are they punishing their loyal customers as well, the nice lady told me that NOT everyone will have to pay the extra charge, most likely those who only use their Flexaccount for holiday money only will have to pay the extra 1% charge. So there is a possibility that they will only hit the free loaders with the charge...and quite right too!
Taken from Nationwide Press release
"In addition to the changes listed above, with effect from 6 May 2009, any charges incurred by the Society on behalf of our customers from our card scheme provider, including Visa, or other body or institution, MAY be passed on to our customers and debited from their account (subject to 30 days' notice). This change will affect credit and debit cards.0 -
That detail wasnt in the press release. How are they doing to differentiate?0

Why is everyone annoyed that Nationwide hasn't "let them know" yet? It doesn't apply for nearly 2 months, there's still plenty of time for them to write to you!0
-
u post this as though the lack of charge was a god given right.0

I love the NW spokespersons quote..
"By passing on the fee of 0.84% that Visa currently charge us, we can continue to offer a number of benefits."
WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE BENEFITS THEN? I'M HAVING TROUBLE SEEING THEM! :rolleyes:I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
'Boardroom pay at Nationwide increased nearly 18 per cent to just over £6m.' (Daily Wail, June 2008) That's one benefit the Nationwide will be trying very hard to keep.0
