As I've mentioned in postings a number of weeks ago, I received a letter saying that I had "failed to reach the required standard" when being credit checked and told to get a copy of my Credit Report for more details...... Even the Manager at my local branch (Stony Stratford) told me the account was credit scored, and that I must have a history of fraud or something (!!) and that I couldn't appeal the decision.
The account is not credit scored - you could have the world's worst credit and we would still give you the account. Our main reasons for declining banking facilities on the cash card account is that the applicant has either a history of fraud (sourced from CIFAS, NH, etc.) or a history of write offs in the Barclays group (basically: if we've lost money on you, you can go away now). What would William Shatner do?0 -
Looks like the branch manager done the credit check/scoring by accident on the CCA then. Haha, I'm so bored and did this.
Or just simply said the wrong thing. You can't just credit score someone, it's built into an application and the staff never see the report. What would William Shatner do?0 -
Cheers for replying. storminbalder which is the only one basic a/c that provide a fully functional debit card please. That is what I really am after a proper debit card that is accepted almost anywhere as long as there is sufficient funds in the account. Also like you say LLoyds and Barclays Visa offer no more than Electron however they do seem to be more accepted than electron. I have had times where you go to pay using electron and when you point out that electron is still Visa am told its different to a Visa debit card. the ones from Barclays etc don't have the ELECTRON tag on the card.
Help please.
Thanks

Only for Barclays though.
Not sure about other banks. Why does Barclays changed the requirements for customers to be on the voters roll for their bank accounts (excluding CCA obviously)?

Remember though that you can't withdraw cash from the Lloyds one, except at Lloyds cash machines.
Most other basic accounts will give you a Visa Electron card, but will let you use any cash machine you like.[/quote]
You can also withdraw money from the post office with a ltsb account:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T0 -
Thanks for this but can you explain "they don't process through like Electron"BarclaysManager wrote: »Not entirely true: they don't process through as Electron, so they can be used in places that don't accept Electron.
Thanks again0 -
stickman - were you successful with the Cash Card Account application?0

Thanks book 12 for your help but as yet have'nt been able to get to branch, will let you know how I get on when I do. Also could you possibly shed any light on my last post re processing through,am a bit confused as if visa debit works in the same way as electron ie only lets you payfor/take out whats in your a/c then why does'nt it have the same problems as electron.
Thanks0 -
LTSB Cash Account also offer a VISA debit card too.
Barclays and LTSB are the only ones that do them.
dont forget HSBC as they no longer use Solo.... :T so you'll get a nice silver visa "all authorisation" debit card! Its based around electron/solo meaning you cannot use it unless the terminal is live, i.e. needs authorisation. So you cannot use it on a plane, train or petrol pay at pumps to name a few..... also, cashback is not offered at all places, the tills must know that it is an electron card substitute or summat - I think supermarkets offer c/b but my local spar never (I do have the HSBC Plus Maestro which isn't all auth as well as this account).

Nope, not entirely true back at ya lol..... you can't use them at Tesco pay at pump - it comes up as payment not accepted i.e electron. Same goes with planes and trains. They are all authorisation cards, same as solo/electron but go through as Visa (they also report to cra's as a bank account which looks good)
