Basic Account with Visa Debit Card

Sorry if I've posted this on the wrong thread also if the question has been answered else where.
Am currently in a DMP with CCCS and have a co-op Cashminder a/c with Electron card. The a/c is fine co-op very good it's just the Electron card, not being a "debit" card seriously limits its usage.
Is there any way of getting a debit card with a basic a/c no o/d facility but if possible with cashback facility, though that is'nt such a big issue.
Have read on here that some of the banks do credit checks now for even basic accounts,so obviously this will have an effect on me if I try to move to a different bank.
All I am after is a basic a/c but with a proper debit card preferably Visa debit card.

Thanks

Barclays Cash Card Account comes with either an ATM card or 2in1 Visa Debit card.

LTSB Cash Account also offer a VISA debit card too.

Barclays and LTSB are the only ones that do them.

Remember though that you can't withdraw cash from the Lloyds one, except at Lloyds cash machines.

Most other basic accounts will give you a Visa Electron card, but will let you use any cash machine you like.

Yes, that is correct. If the original poster doesn't mind about that, he could consider that accont as well as Barclays.

stickman - you could try Clydesdale/Yorkshire bank (if you have one near the place you live) who offer Maestro debit cards. Second most accepted debit system after VISA.

Thanks for the info I think I'll try for the Barclay cash card a/c. My son has a Barclay's Connect a/c with Visa debit but that allows him an o/d which I don't want, but he is able to get cashback which would be handy.
Does the cardcash a/c offer similar, though would prefer no o/d facility, also do Barclay's do a credit check, if so I fear that I may be unsuccesful as I am on a DMP.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Go into branch and open it. If they don't open it in for you in branch (depend who you see), they will give you an application pack. In that case, fill in the form, and send it by post.

Your son has the Barclays Bank Account, not the Cash Card Account .

They only do ID/address check just like other basic bank accounts at other banks.

Barclays (and Co-op) are the only banks that accept undischarged bankrupts for their basic bank account. Not sure is DMP is related to undischarged bankruptcy though. Haven't been into debt, so wouldn't know. You could always try though. Before you go to branch and open it, I would go onto the Barclays website, and go to any current account webpage, and wait for a pop up to appear. This pop up is a webchat where you could chat to Barlcays customer advisors. Ask them about your situation to see if you could be eligible for a Cash Card Account. Alternatively, call this phone number: 0800 015 4996. Got this number from the application I had a few months ago.
  • Do be aware that whilst Lloyds and Barclays basic accounts do come with Visa, these have the same reduced fuctionality as Electron debit cards.

In other words, they offer no more to you that the one you have already.

Example - they will need online authorisation in just the same way as the Electron.

Only one basic account provided a full functionality debit card, and i'm afraid it isn't a Visa.

The cash card account doesn't allow overdrafts, but it will allow you to get cash back if you get the Visa debit card.

The cash card account isn't credit scored. The only check undertaken is a voters roll search, but you don't have to be on that, either.

Not entirely true: they don't process through as Electron, so they can be used in places that don't accept Electron.

Cheers for replying. storminbalder which is the only one basic a/c that provide a fully functional debit card please. That is what I really am after a proper debit card that is accepted almost anywhere as long as there is sufficient funds in the account. Also like you say LLoyds and Barclays Visa offer no more than Electron however they do seem to be more accepted than electron. I have had times where you go to pay using electron and when you point out that electron is still Visa am told its different to a Visa debit card. the ones from Barclays etc don't have the ELECTRON tag on the card.

    Help please.

    Thanks
