Hope it's not too late stickman. Bring the following ID with you: http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=popup1group&value=4834

The cash card account isn't credit scored. The only check undertaken is a voters roll search, but you don't have to be on that, either.
Out of curiosity, if the person is not voters roll, does that mean no VISA debit card on the CCA? If the person is unemployed with income (e.g. benefits) or unemployed without income and selects the Connect card box, would they be declined for that, and offer a cash card instead?
To be honest, no matter what kind of bank account (i.e. basic or current account) you apply for, being on the voters roll is optional.0 -

Is this really the case? As I've mentioned in postings a number of weeks ago, I received a letter saying that I had "failed to reach the required standard" when being credit checked and told to get a copy of my Credit Report for more details...... Even the Manager at my local branch (Stony Stratford) told me the account was credit scored, and that I must have a history of fraud or something (!!) and that I couldn't appeal the decision.
I have checked my Credit Report BTW, As I like to keep an eye on it every so often, There's no record of fraud or anything, Just bad debts.

I have a Visa Debit and I'm not on the Electoral Roll yet.0 -

BarclaysManager is right about the CCA not being credit scored. Other banks don't credit score for their basic bank account. Probably the manager is wrong?
Since you applied for that account in branch, try opening it by post.
You were declined because of bad debts. However, according to this website: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf , it says a person will be declined for a Barclays CCA if you have the following: record of fraud. You don't have that. By the looks of it, maybe Barclays have updated their criteria for declining people who have bad debts?I have a Visa Debit and I'm not on the Electoral Roll yet.

Update of the Cash Card Account
I have a spare copy of the application pack for this account.
On the form, it says 'authorising us when considering this application make credit reference, identity, fraud and other enquiries... blah blah blah'. Doesn't say anything about 'scoring' though. I would assume they just check for credit file to see what kind of stuff you have that is credit related.
It's just the standard phrase agreement for all bank accounts they have anyway. Wouldn't worry about it.
This account is for people who have poor/no credit history/score anyway.
As I said before BarclaysManager is right about credit scoring doesn't happen for the CCA. I even called the customer service helpline and the people on the Barclays web chat, they even said no credit check is done. If you talk to other Barclays taff on here, they will say the same thing. Looks like the branch manager done the credit check/scoring by accident on the CCA then. Haha, I'm so bored and did this.0 -
Thanks book12. I'm gonna try again for this account, I'm really that desperate for an account with a local branch and Proper Visa Debit card

Try another branch where you live instead of going to the same one. Alternatively, you could ask for the form, and apply by post.
Good luck. Hopefully, you will get accepted this time.0 -

I'm not saying you have any fraud but just because there isn't any on your credit file it doesn't mean CIFAS doesn't hold any information.0 -

Your credit history must be very poor if you are desperate! Best of luck, im sure everything will turn out ok.0 -

You cannot be declined for the Visa debit if you have the cash card account. There is no scoring at all. Employment and income make no difference. If someone lives on benefits alone, this is the account that our policy requires them to have.To be honest, no matter what kind of bank account (i.e. basic or current account) you apply for, being on the voters roll is optional.
It was an absolute requirement until about 12 months ago. What would William Shatner do?0
