Selling stinky clothes on ebay?

:DHi

A little rant coming up.... Is it just me, but do the rest of you who sell clothes on ebay generally give them a wash and iron etc before sending them out?

When selling items myself, (and I've sold loads over the years) even if I know they've been washed, I'll always give them another wash to freshen them up!

I am horrified - I bought a designer jacket for my daughter (aged 6-9 months).. it has just arrived... I opened the packaging and I was nearly sick..it stinks!! the bit where the jacket buttons up at the front was actually stuck to the inside of it!! When I've prised it apart, it's got what I can only describe as baby sick on the inside!!!

I can't believe people send items out like this  - there's no way I can put this on my daughter!!

Rant over...!! :D Do I feel better for it? No... I can still smell it - I reckon it'll be one of those smells that's up my nose all day... and I've slung the jacket outside now too!!

    No I haven't contacted her...

I've just noticed that she'd put a business card in with it for 'discount nursery and baby goods' - so it looks like it may not have been one of her own personal items... even so though...I still couldn't send anything out before washing it and checking it over for stains etc - regardless of what volume of items I was dealing with!!

The smell hit me as soon as I opened the packaging... she must have been able to smell it when she was handling it! Dirty *******!!!
  • That is REVOLTING! You should contact the seller and tell them what has happened. Then leave them negative feedback.

When I sold loads of my old clothes I was so paranoid about them smelling (they had been at the back of my wardrobe for years) that I washed them, ironed them with rose water and then gave them a liberal spray of Chanel No. 5!

    Against ebay policy ;)
You might want to give them a heads up if she's selling lots of minging stuff.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

You may find that "well worn" clothes fetch a lot more money than nicely laundered clothes....

I have had a few bad experiences on ebay recently all regarding clothes/cloth items. I can't believe what some people will post out! I got a maternity swimsuit that was so bobbled on the bottom, I think the woman I bought it from must have had a long summer holiday and sat on her a*se at the edge of a pebbled swimming pool all day, I got maternity pyjamas and one strap is hanging by a thread so I need to stitch it up (this seller has emailed me and asked me to leave feedback, not done it yet!), and I got some fisher price soft blocks which had strange marks like mould, and when you took the blocks out of a fabric cover there was a dead wasp inside!

I have bought a lot on ebay over the years but not really any clothes until recently and on the whole haven't had too many bad experiences. I think I may stop buying clothes because others idea of very good condition does not seem to be my idea!
  • I've bought mostly vintage clothes on Ebay over the years, and sold some as well - most sellers in this category are pretty honest about what they're selling, although I bought a 1950s fur coat last year that reeked of cigar smoke, not mentioned! (I was able to hang it in the garden shed until the smell cleared...)

I would never sell an item of clothing on Ebay that hasn't been washed and ironed just because I want my customers to be pleased with their purchase and come back to me.

Not only that it is just disgusting not to really!

I recently bought a cardigan which was new and had the tags on and when it arrived it absolutely smelt of cigarette smoke, it was horrible.

I sent the buyer a message saying that I wasn’t very happy as the item smelt of smoke and was meant to be new and her response was “well I bought it off someone else and it smelt like that when I received it. I don’t even smoke”. Wasn’t really sure what to say to that so I just didn’t bother leaving her any feedback.

I always say on my clothing auctions that the item comes from a smoke free home so people know that it should arrive nice and fresh smelling.

I don't understand how people could send stuff not washed/cleaned etc. surely if they want good feedback you'd at least clean it
