It depends on the age of the OP who she views as "elderly" doesn't it? When I was 25 I thought anyone over 50 was ancient :rotfl: .

True-well im not even 25 yet and i dont consider over 50 as elderly.

I would say elderly/OAP to me applies to those around 70+...perhaps from 65 but not very often that i see that, only rarely ive met someone 65-70 who has acted very very elderly.

Like all these suggestions to call the cops. we have an ongoing problem with drug dealers at the bottom of the private road, as well as yobs damaging cars on our car park. Have yet to see anyone in blue bother to respond - low priority don't ya know.
As Damsel said DWP Fraud Investigators, not snoopers, aren't generally getting on in years, and aren't usually easily detectabe, plus they always travel in pairs for security reasons. More like some Private Investigator nosing on the neighbours or maybe some guy made redundant who can't tell his missus and sits on your road till its time to go home or he gets moved on.

Who better than an OAP to avoid suspicion. I would not put it past the government to employ anyone they thought could get away with it!

You say at the end of your post you dont want to confront him as he's "quite elderly"...

..Im sorry but why on earth would you think hes a benefit investigator then?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the DWP are hardly likely to employ OAPS as fraud snoopers!

I can just see the add now - "Elderly man wanted to spy on possible benefit fraudsters-must be over 75 and be able to use a mobile phone, you will be paid in kind with bucket loads of prune juice and crumpets"

    Rain mack optional...! :D

Seriously though, I take 'elderly' to mean over retirement age so I see your point.

Well, I guess that would explain why he was so close... :p:D

call the police, they will be aware of and DWP type investigations and can put your mind at rest.

if you have nothing to hide then please dont worry about it, esp if you arent well. fr the DWP and council bods to sit outside and do surveillance they need a damn good reason and have to have covered every other possible avenue and they are discreet.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Thanks for the replies - I think I probably was being paranoid but the Neighbourhood Watch woman in our road had a word with him and apparantly he was watching the workmen, of whom there seem to be an inordinate number, doing home improvement works to next door - why he was watching them I don't know but she has taken his number and told the police so it is now being dealt with. I am not normally paranoid but this guy had been there two days running from before 8am. I think we all must have different perceptions of elderly - to me it means older but not yet an old person IYKWIM......

Personally, I'd be rather concerned about a man sitting outside my home and apprently watching my movements!

Now, that would be a bit intrusive! And anyway he couldn't see through the frosted glass, surely.
