If we're thinking of the same thing, that's the "Lebanese loop" - it's the card they trap, not the cash. ;)
No, pretty sure it was something that blocks the cash.
  • So the machine was definitely faulty? if money goes back into the machine, it is usually recognised and then refunded to the account.

What did Halifax say on time scales, I'd be livid by now, that they have admitted it wasn't your error but haven't given you the money back yet (be it temporarily or permenantly whilst they investigate).

    H

    I am!

It was abbey that admitted it was their fault, but typically of them are taking no owness on the situation and telling me just talk to hlifax as i don't bank with Abbey - i was origionally told by them see what happens at midnight as it may just be re-credited but told if it wasn't it would need to be aclaim. It wasn't - it was the then i got the crap about they don't basically care. Halifax (my bank) are being helpful i suppose. The guy told me as it was the abbey machine that messed up and not one of theirs they'd have to set up an investigation and explained the proccess. They are saying 2-3 weeks as they have to communicate with Abbey and it depends on how fast Abbey give them the answers, as i am not one of their customers it's unlikely they'll be prompt at all. I got a bit wound up - i mean i had no cash, he said he'd fill everything out for me and then would just need a signature...it's not much help but he sounded sympathetic.

It's Abbey i am really mad at at the mo. I hadn't tought much of it before but OH said come to think about it that particular ATM often says ''out of service'' or ''out of cash'' so it seems like it may just be dodgy and instead of replacing it they just fix a niggle - hopefully if it is the case though that'll work in my favour.

I really hope it's not a scam - he did say after the error it went back to the please insert card screen.

  • On this one, I think I would check the betting slips in the OH wallet first before thinking I had lost £160. You never know, he could had backed a winner!
  • Hahaha! If he was then i might just forgive him and take my winings. Lol - No i know full well it wasn't him...he doesn't lie like that. Plus it's put us both out of pocket as he has had to return to his credit card that he never wanted to use again (evil credit as he calls it) to bail us out for the next few days so he is not happy either.

I must say i'm surprised at the lack of trust some of mse'ers have for their partners, lol! I suppose it's down to personal experience.

If they do finally give you the £160, Make abbey pay some compo, and any bank charges, and when your at it charge them interest for using your cash :D

I have been reading your thread for a few days now & I really feel for you. I do think that some of the responses seemed to have missed the point. The Bank has your money through no fault of your own & you just want what is yours put back into your account. In effect they have stolen this money from your account as you have nothing to show for it. I have investigated other blogs where this has happened & provided that there is nothing strange about your appeal or dispute it seems that you will eventually get this money back but the minimum turnaround time seems to be 18days, some take longer, which I do think is disgusting in this day & with the technology we are supposed to have today. Unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be anything you can do about this or to even speed things up! I just feel that I personally & maybe others to should just beware of using cash machines that are not their own Bank though I appreciate this is not always feasible. It does seem that this usually only happens with large amounts so looks like it just didn't have enough money! Good Luck & please do keep this thread going with any updates & especially advise when & what date you do get the refund.

Abbey will do a balance check for that day. Also most people do not realise that most bank ATM machines have a secret camera.
