I think you are correct. I was on the unlimited weekend plan but out of contract on this and the broadband. I think I've been offered the same deal as Heinz, broadband for £7 ish a month plus £2 discount on the line rental. However, if you let the contract roll over the price will revert to the higher prices and you'll be stuck paying the higher price for the next 12 months. They do state they will write to you before the contract is about to come to an end but I've kept a note of the dates as a reminder.Stuff Martin Has Helped Me Save/Earn

I transferred my mother to talktalk recently from BTs so called free evening and weekend calls regime. From paying £57 a month - she now pays about half that for anytime calls to landlines INCLUDING broadband.
BT have sent her an invoice for cancelling the so called contract of about £70 that I have queried and asked for details. Now I'm no expert but there is more to a contract than merely one side saying there is a contract because one party is making a lot of money out of it.
There is also an unfair contract or one that has unfair contract terms.
Perhaps Martin should look at these so called contracts as there is a lot of money being "wasted" by people being on the wrong option and tied in maybe unfairly to the wrong provider.0 -

Their is no minimum term contract whatsoever for the Weekend Call Plan, unless you ordered a new line when you took it,when a 12 month non rolling contract would apply.
"Unlimited Weekend Plan. For new and existing residential customers making at least one chargeable call a month with BT. Only £10.27 a month line rental with Direct Debit and paper-free billing (£11.25 from 1st April). No minimum term, unless you order a new phone line or switch your phone line to BT from another provider, where a 12 month minimum term applies to line rental."0 -
My contract expires on 18th April 2009. If I call now and tell then I don't want it automatically renewed for a further 12 months will they force me to pay the £2.70 for evening and weekend calls until the minimum contract ends on April 19th?
I'm thinking of going with sky as they offer free caller display see here under handy optional extras

I barely make any phone calls using my landline (my bill is between £10.50 and £13 a month!):kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

You should start paying for the calls from 19/4/2009.
BT offer free caller display if you make 2 inclusive/chargeable calls a month.0 -
Hi,
I signed up to the BT unlimited evening & weekend plan in February last year, with paper free billing and direct debit my monthly rental was under £11. Recently SKY announced unless you had sky talk they were going to charge me £5 for my broadband which is currently free. Decided to cancel my call plan with BT and transfer it over to SKY, called BT to cancel and they told me I could only cancel the discount they were applying to my account and that I would start paying around £3 per month for the service when my 12 months ran out unless I called on the day and cancelled again. I tried my best to explain what I wanted but just could not get throught to the operator what I wanted. Needless to say, I called SKY and asked them to arrange for my line to be transferred over to them, less hastle and marginally cheaper.0 -
I signed up to this and after much trying, was told the contract ended on 11th April 09.
a nice lady at BT said they should write to remind me but will be watching the post as i'm dropping Sky TV & b/band and think i'll try Plus net instead. BTW when my son cancelled he ws charged £50 penalty, so be watchful!!!0 -

No - the 12-month rolling contract situation only applies to those who have taken up the 'Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan for the same price as the Weekend-only plan' offer, or more recently the unlimited plan offer for £4.85 a month extra deal.
BT do offer the same calling plans without contracts for a higher monthly fee, but have taken to burying these options in the small print.0 -
Hi everyone
I am in a complaint battle right now with BT about this whole contract fiasco business. Just like others on this post about people saying they thought they getting a good deal by getting a phone-call & asking they wanted this package at no extra cost, they don't bother to mention that we are tied into a 12mth contract.
This is surely mis-rep of the product and also is nearly as bad as selling extra insurance or warranties on top of something you don't need. Really if they're not telling you anything like this, we as consumers have a right to say we were mislead on a product/service thats not viable to us. It stinks as how these people can rip off the public by doing something like this.
I have moved house too & so because of this i want to cancel my service too but again another £90 has been told i have to pay for this. Absolute B***ocks! I have told them i refuse to pay this! Also this has been escalated to the customer services manager. Whenever i have emailed i have had numerous emails back which don't even relate to my original complaint. Last night i tried again to cancel after talking to one idiot who said "yes our manager will contact you" i was passed around to 5 different people to finally get an answer as to where my complaint currently lies now.
I have been told that im getting a phone-call this morning to discuss this further, so shall update once i get this. If it means they still want payment, im canceling my direct debit & they can go do one! The reason for this is all of this has been currently passes onto consumer direct as well as Ofcom & they want updates as i go along.
I don't trust BT anymore, i wouldn't recommend them to my dog let alone human beings, they a re a joke, their customer service is none existent & all they want is their money whether its justified or not. I totally sympashise with the woman earlier with bi-polar & she should get further help as them antaganising the situation would not help.
But yes i think also Martin should investigate this fully and i would be willing to take part in an interview & letting hell all break loose, i couldn't care less:mad:0 -
All this sneaky contracting is now the norm. Virgin Media told me so! And they don't give two hoots what offcom says.0
