Yep, I've just had the deskdrop.

Increases of 22% for gas and electric.

To be fair, Npower and SSE have already increased prices this year, and Scottish Power and EDF are increasing in February.

Everyone is in the same boat, and most prices will shake out pretty even once all firms have put through the increase. It's not about jumping ship, it's about finding the best deal - capped, special offers, DD discounts etc.

The 5-year price freeze BG offered last year looks like it was a pretty good offer now.

I'm considering switching supplier. Would you say it would be best to wait a few months for everyone to put their prices up before I do a comparison?

Well you can see who has already put up their prices, and who is going to (although the switch sites won't reflect this until the actual price rises come into effect). Unless you're thinking of going with someone else, and I would say chances of them putting up their prices are about 99.9%

I no I am with SP, but it is still disgusting. Imagine when you on a low income, and then now face paying inflation busting increases on top of that council tax that is out of control, and we get what, peanuts? I am sorry but something is wrong and it is immoral and outrageous increases, it makes me bloody sick.

The problem is that the companies are putting up their tariffs every few months. BG raised their tariff last Sept and again this coming March. EDF companies(LondonEnergy) the same.

You can bet a couple of companies will hold off announcing their rises until a few more(gullible?) people are convinced they have got the best deal and changed over to them.

As far as I am aware there has not been a company that have provided the consistently best prices over a period of time.
  • Personally I think this is an area where the government should regulate prices.

In my view companies should only be allowed to increase prices above inflation or make staff cuts if they are losing money - not while they are still making huge profits.

For instance given the banks are making larger profits each year they should not be allowed by law to cut staff.

I switched to B gas last year as they were the cheapest..... Oh well?

I wonder if I will get a 22% payrise to help with the increase in energy, my council tax, petrol, heating oil,
    I think not!
