Yes you do need jabs for Egypt, i had Polio, Tetanus and Hepatitis/Typhoid. Just ask your doctor they will advise you. You need to get them at least a month before you go.
For currency, i took Egyptian Pounds, bought on Travelex (excellent rates and easy to use), but you need to pay for your visa when you get to Hurghada airport in English Pounds (about £15 each).
I think you get a good exchange rate over in Egypt, but not in the hotels though, so its up to you if you want to take half English, half Egyptian and then change more while your over there if need be.:wave:0 -
alanrowell wrote:As for Hurghada, I'm sure there must be worse places to be a tourist in Egypt, but off hand I can't think of one.
Basically it's the Egyptian equivalent of Benidorm ot Torremolinos - but without the charm of either.
You are so separated from "normal" Egypt that you could be in any hot dry country in the world.
To visit any of the tourist sights in Egypt means either a flight or an overnight trip
I'm thinking of going on the nile for a week then a hotel by a beach for the second week. Was Hurghada really that bad? I won't be worried about it being far removed from historic sites as will spend first week looking at these. Would be interested to hear your thoughts...0 -

If you are staying in Taba maybe think about a day trip to Petra (in Jordan)to visit the Lost City. It costs about £130 each and has a early start around 5am getting back to your hotel around 9.30pm on reasearching this trip I have found this info
Leave around 5 am from your resort by coach to waterworld marina
then a ferry across to Aqaba (Jordan) about 1hr 15mins
2 hrs coach journey to Petra
4 hrs inside Petra
Might be a good idea to take something long sleeved as it is cold inside and because of the high elevation
Avoid using the donkeys and carriages (dont know why)
Then to a hotel for a buffet dinner returning back to your resort around 9.30pm
this trip was with Longwoods
I have read that the Lost City is fanastic and really want to do this trip myself, hence my research. I hope this is of help to anyone wanting to do this trip too.0 -
yes it is a good thread! never expected so many replies but the response has been brilliant!we have paid £1000 for two of us all inclusive for two weeks, daytime local flights. we decided to try somewhere difrent as we are going in july and school hols preiod and didnt wanna be surrounded by kids (no offence to familes or children i LOVE kids i work with them every day but its nice when your a young couple to go somewhere less family orientated. i know there will be children there but we reckon fewer than in spain peak season.
we are stuck on how much spend to take with us, my OH reckons £600 between us but i think that sounds alot when we are AI for food drink and entertainment, obviously we will have to pay for trips and watersports and drinks if we go out but i was hoping we had paid a lot upfront to "save" us taking lots of spend..0 -
