    Hi

We have been to Taba - fantastic would highly recommend and did not suffer from dodgy tums and then visited El Gorna near Hurghada and all the family were ill. We took Imodium for a couple a days which did not seem to work and then visited Chemist where we were told Imodium is not suitable for 'Egyptian Tummy problems' and were sold some tablets for about £ 1 which worked within 3 hours.

Hope this helps someone if they are as unlucky as we were.
  • I went to see the pyramids in September -fabulous site, very worthwhile. One piece of advice I was given - don't wear sandals - the sand is so very hot - and gets everywhere. I wore pumps and it was so much more comfortable.

O-oh and ride a camel - what an experience!!! Only pay what YOU consider a fair price not what the camel men tell you!

    Good luck and enjoy yourself

i suppose when we are used to our way of live some people do find places like egypt a culture shock. i on the other hand enjoy experiencing another way of life.

    Hi
it's not a culture shock been to far more way out places than Egypt i.e Cambodia Laos Philippines China Nepal e.t.c
The locals of these places could not do enough for you. They are kind and welcoming I find Egypt on par with Morocco rude people treat women like second class ctizens

I'm not surprised they didn't work as they kept all that poison IN your body. Best thing to do is let nature take it's course and keep hydrated by drinking water and eating peeled fruit.

Imodium should only EVER be used if you are having to travel and have no toilet facilities.

You were lucky that you didn't end up seriously - and I mean seriously - ill.

As for Hurghada, I'm sure there must be worse places to be a tourist in Egypt, but off hand I can't think of one.

Basically it's the Egyptian equivalent of Benidorm ot Torremolinos - but without the charm of either.

You are so separated from "normal" Egypt that you could be in any hot dry country in the world.

To visit any of the tourist sights in Egypt means either a flight or an overnight trip

    hi
turley was a bit the same women are second class citizens..but there are ppl who treat women like that in this country too..
the dodgy tum seems to be a regular occurnace so will take something for that just in case! i have read sharm el sheikh is the blackpool of egypt and hurghada is less so, althought still has a pizza hut and mcds ?!
i will defot ake some triners for the pyramids i have heard that b4 too, although as a flip flop lover i will find it wrong to wear pumps!!

I went to Hurghada a couple of years ago in August, and boy was it hot EVERYDAY! lovely hotel we stayed in called the Inter-Continental, all the hotels have there own private beaches.

I also recently went top El Gouna in the New Year, still warm but not as nice as Hurghada.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are very polite and helpful.

Only thing is when you go into the main town, you get hassled by every single shopkeeper. You don't mind the first couple, you just say 'no thanks' and move on, but after a while with every shop you walk past (especially with the daytime heat) you get real p***ed off with them!

If you do go into a shop ALWAYS haggle, even pretend your not interested in an item (even if you are!) and say 'i'll come back, etc, they will keep offering you a lower price.

They will try every trick in the book to get you in their shop, and on the odd occasion there might be 2 or 3 people for one shop hassling you and it can be quite intimidating.

Apart from that, the resort itself is gorgeous, hotels are all brand new and the food very good value for money.

Make sure you do some trips with your rep. The Desert Safari/Star gazing is a fantastic day out as is the snorkelling trips to some of the small islands, well worth the money!

Also, always tip small amounts. One or two Egyptian Pounds may not seem much to us, but to them its a nice amount. I would normally tip in restaurants, if the porter takes your bags, etc; and also if you go on an excursion, tip the excursion rep and/or the driver.
