Brits being discriminated against regards car insurance costs

Its the price you pay for being able to drive in any European country, you can go to spain and the system will work to your advantage. No doubt one day it will be the same across the whole of Europe.0

Sorry but I just don't get this. Why are you getting so wound up by non UK licenses not being endorsed? So what?
I know, I know, it's not fair........why should they get away with it............why should we subsidise immigrants/visitors...............blah blah blah.
At the end of the day, if you get done and get points on your license then your insurance may go up - tough, that's just the way it is, and before anyone points any fingers, I'm not taking any moral stance on this as one look at my license would prove!
I hate all this, it's like little kids in a playground - little Jonny kicks little Eddie in the balls and gets detention, then moans because little Timmy didn't get detention when he kicked little Joey in the balls yesterday.
If you really feel that strongly about it, I'm sure that the Daily Mail or Express would be more than happy to start a campaign on your behalf.
It just seems to me that these days people will look for any excuse to bash johnny foreigner and blame all of our ills on imigrants. People cry foul at the slightest perceived injustice that involves someone who is not a UK resident.
If you want to take a long hard look at yourself, ask yourself these questions -
Is it fair that someone has worked a 20 hour shift in a factory for less than £1 so that I can have a nice pair of trainers?
Is it fair that someone has sweated in a field all day for less than our minimum wage so that I can enjoy my glass of orangejuice in the morning or a cup of coffee?
No doubt there will now be loads of people who will have a go and accuse me of over-reacting, but as you can probably tell, this kind of whinging really winds me up.
Rant over. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
i wasn't in any way having a go at "johnny foreigner" - i was having a go at the system. i could equally rant that some people look for any excuse to have a go at people who make innocent comments about immigrants.
I take your points about world poverty etc, but this is a moneysaving site, where matters of this kind are raised in almost all posts. you could respond to almost any thread on this site by belittling it though a comparison to the third world. of course all threads on here are insignificant compared to world starvation, but that's not really the point of this forum is it?
it's easy enough for you to tell me to write to the daily mail given that you say i feel so strong about it. In an equally cheap shot i could suggest that your time would be better spent helping out oxfam rather than ranting on here given the relative importance of these issues.....0 -

Explain to me then, how is this issue important to you and your life?
Do you lose sleep over this?
Is it a "moneysaving" tip?
Is it going to help other people save money?
If a foreign driver got points on their license, would yours, mine or anyone elses insurance go down?
As the answer to all of the above is a resounding no then what was the point of asking the question if you were not having a pop at foreigners?
Think about my playground example again, because that is exactly what you are doing. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
"Explain to me then, how is this issue important to you and your life?"
i'm agreeing with you that in the big scheme of things it's not important. all i'm saying is that if things had to be really important part of life to be ok to raise here then it would be a very quiet forum
"Do you lose sleep over this?"
no!
"Is it a "moneysaving" tip?"
if you look closely, not many threads on here are strictly moneysaving. it's a general insurance discussion thread. ironically my thread is more relevant to insurance than large parts of yours
"Is it going to help other people save money?"
as above not all threads on here save people money
"If a foreign driver got points on their license, would yours, mine or anyone elses insurance go down?"
we hear all the time that uninsured drivers add to the cost of insured drivers. somebody somewhere is paying for the claims that these drivers are having, and if they're not paying the relevant increase in their premiums for the conviction, someone somewhere is paying over the odds to make it add up. simple maths
"As the answer to all of the above is a resounding no then what was the point of asking the question if you were not having a pop at foreigners?"
your answer may be no, my answers are as above. trail though your own last 10 posts and tell me how many of them are saving people money0 -
The alternative is to have all issuing authorities being able to issue points to EU licences.
I cannot wait for the hordes complaining because they were banned from driving after going through German speed cameras at 200km/h+.From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
Seems to me this is racism on the OP's part as they are objecting to only one half of the equasion and ignoring the other side which benefits UK licence holdersI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

an accusation of racism is serious and ill-judged, and i'm shocked that people feel it correct to "thank" you for a post containing such a serious unfounded accusation. i don't have a racist bone in my body, and i think it reflects badly on MSE that such a post is allowed to stay:mad:
I raised one half of the issue because it's the part that affects me. i've never driven abroad, like lots of young people in this country.
think twice before you make such posts:mad:  :mad:0 -

i totally agree with this alternative and think this is what the countries across Europe should be aiming for. If nothing else it can only have a positive effect on road safety and potentially reduce deaths and injuries that happen all too often.
I can't see any reason why one could validly complain at getting points on your license if you break the driving laws of the country within which one is driving0 -
No doubt you are not racist / xenophobic but the post comes accros as xenophobic.
Its just points on a licence, we have benefits / advantages over locals when we go abroad in Europe. Its just one of those things, you need just let it go.
Eventually the bods in Brussell will come up with some way of harmonising it all, but they can only do one thing at a time.
I for one love Europe and being able to travel etc freely in Europe and like other Europeans can come to the UK freely.
Its only points on a licence0
