UKOnline has no capping levels at all...
And if you're LLU, the rates a\re even better..
Good place to check which services are available to you is Sam Knows
Basically, if you're on an LLU exchange, other companies are allowed to use the exchange to offer a more direct service to you (by-passing BT's wholesale division, and thus cutting out their profit margin)
LLU also offers you the potential to get a "better" service, as the companies that have access to the exchange are in the main also offering ADSL 2+ technology at ADSL 1 prices.
An example...
Euro1Net 2 MB service = £15.99 + £50 setup fee
UKOnline 2 MB service = £14.99 no setup fee til the end of March
If you want a bit more speed... then 8 MB is £24.99... and if that still isn't enough... 22MB is £29.99.
(There are other LLU providers out there offering a similar service, just wanted to highlight the availability of one of the ones I feel has an exellent all round proposition... Bulldog *cough* )
All this is dependant on the usual criteria of course :P0 -

looked at ukonline heard some bad things
also when i look at the costs i get
'Due to overwhelming demand for our services in your area, we will be delivering your services using BT's network. Currently £9.99 Broadband and 8Mb Broadband is not available in your area. We anticipate being able to offer these services soon. You can however still choose from our great unlimited broadband services below'
1 meg £19.99
2 meg £24.99
i thought the exchange had not been unbundled yet
yet when i check online
it states buckinghamshire aylesbury is live

aaaah, you may well have hit a capacity issue there then :S
But you are indeed correct, it is LLU'd http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange.php?ecode=SMAY
Might be worth dropping a call to their sale team, they may be able to shed a bit more light on it for you.... Databases have been known to be out of date where capacity issues are concerned :P0 -
A friend uses UK online and since he got it 3 months ago, he has not been able to use he phone line for voice calls as UKonline stuffed something up and are being slow at fixing it.
UK online does have a limit but it's 500Gb/month (somewhere in their T&Cs) so effectively it's unlimited.
Zen are very good and reputable if you want an uncapped service.0 -
Zen look ok but the Activation Charge of £40.00 & £29.78 per month is a little steep.
with euro1net.com 2meg connection is £15.99 per month + 50 Activation charge (1 year)
Avctivation charge is wavered if you subscribe for 2 years
1meg connection is £10.00 per month + 50 Activation charge (1 year)
Avctivation charge is wavered if you subscribe for 2 years0 -
you shouldn't have to pay an activation charge becuase your line is already ADSL activated (unless you cancelled your bt broadband). In your letter from them it will say something like "You have 2 options - pay £1 for every gig over, or we will give you a code to transfer to another ISP". It's that code you want - it's called a MAC code and it allows you to switch between ISPs without losing your connection and without having to pay another activation fee.
Euronet's terms and conditions have this:
2.7 Euro1Net believes in providing all our customers with a good quality service, this can only be accomplished if our customers can use the internet without disruption of service. Euro1Net does not impose any nominal restrictions on the amount of data that you can send or receive using our broadband service, however, if we believe that your use of our broadband service is adversely affecting our broadband network, or other customers, we do reserve the right to regulate your usage. For example, we may at peak times give priority to light users over heavy users. As a provider, Euro1Net has a legal responsibility to ensure that all users have access to an unrestricted quality service.
Which basically means if you download a lot (which you probably will) they will prioritise your traffic - i.e. you will get really slow download speeds on P2P applications. Time critical features like VoIP and online gaming will not work very well becuase they will be behind the queue of 'light' users.
Depends on what you download from the internet. Do you use P2P?0 -
i have already spoken to BT i have not cancelled yet
but they did give me my MAC code. (little supprised they did not try harder to keep my business)
i do use p2p but even with BT i never got near a 1 meg download speed even though i had a 2 meg connection.
if i give my MAC code to another ISP do i need to cancel with BT or will this happen automatilly?
will there also be time when i am without the internet while i await confirmation and software from euro1net.com, or as one cancles can the second one start?0 -
Once you give the MAC code to your new ISP then you don't need to cancel with BT - it will go through automatically (although you might want to cancel your direct debit with them just in case).
You will not be left without internet connection. Your new ISP gives you a 'migration' date. And on that day you just sign in with your new ISP details. No downtime.0 -
my only worry is paying for a year upfront.
but even if the service only lasts 6 months it is still cheaper than BT0 -
Euro1Net seem alright. Check out the forum:
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=euro1net
You can also compare them with other ISPs. Here's a comparison between them, BT, Zen and IDNet (who I use):
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp?bt=ON&euro1net=ON&idnet=ON&zen=ON&cmp_action=Compare
IDNet have a 30Gig/month policy so probably no good to you.0
