Dont mean to put a downer on this but....Im aware of something worrying.

Now what Im about to say needs to be taken seriously and is not a joke, I am only bothering to post this Warning because i dont want fellow mse'rs to get conned, However after reading this the choice is yours and dont hate me for sharing some good advice with you,

Avis are known to pay their staff an 'extra incentive' to try and find faults when cars are returned back-this is a fact. a scratch. a little dent, any sort of mark and then they are free to charge the damage fee of hundreds, as per their T & C's, Thats why i wouldn't touch this with a barge pole
Take it seriously if u wish or ignore me not a problem, good luck to all.

This offer is really only worth doing on a weekend (the weekday ones arriving 15:00 - 17:00 and being picked up at that time too on the next day not really making it viable for a day trip unless you plan on going away going to sleep then coming back again!)

Sadly all the weekends seem to have gone now.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • I booked one hopefully for special weekend, we need it Thursday early to Saturday late. I booked from wednesday, but now had horrible thought, that they will take it back next day, thursday?

Am I right, if so I willl have to cancel it when they ring me.

Personally I wouldn't do this unless I was planning to hire a car anyway and not just to take advnatage of the offer.
There are many problems that can occur with car hire e.g.

    1) Them claiming you have done damage like scratches which is hard to dispute unless you've phtographed the whole car beforehand. They could do this cynically just to get you to pay the excess.
    2) High excesses or have to pay for excess waivers.
    3) Additional fees for extra drivers, environmental charges (all plus VAT).
    4) Disputes about the state of the exterior, interior and level of fuel, which are very hard to prove.

I'm not saying all car hire firms are crooks as obviously there are good and bad.
But it seems to be fraught with problems, so it's not something I'd do jsut to save using my own car or just to take advanatge of the offer.
Of course if you were planning on hiring a car anyway then it saves money.

If you want to be ultra cautious, then check all bills and terms and conditions carefully, check the car for damage thoroughly before and make sure it's noted on teh diagram and photograph the car all round before you give it back.
Might sound like paranoia but could save a load of grief.

defiantly make sure you wlak around the car looking for any fauls and make sure every fault even the tiniest scuff is noted and make sure the tank is full when you take it back and make sure they check the car over with you before you leave

we hire cars frequently and have never had any problems getting our deposit back and never had any extra charges even when dd opened the door a bit heavy handley in the services and caused a minor scuff

Also make sure you do what they do when they take a car for repair of you and take photos of the car when you receive it and when they take it away all sides.

Mine was booked for this weekend but they phoned this morning to say they have no cars available. They suggested I rebook on the website but of course all the availability is gone now.
