most food (not treats ie biscuits) are vat free. Childrens clothes and kids shoes up to size 5 are vat free as are books. Everything else carries a vat charge.

you can ususally buy cheaper elsewhere anything like books anyway but some special food offers etc are worth checking out

also, workwear (ie safety boots) are vat free

I want one of them petrol generators from this place. Big W sold them, then they stopped selling them. Now macro have them for £39.99. Cheap as chips for my use, tho ebay have them for £59.. obviously. Big W was £40 and i dont mind paying that for 12months warranty on it.. [;)]

Makro can have some very good deals- you just have to watch the mailings for the special offers. Workwear, shoes and DIY stuff can be very reasonable, same as anywhere else though, you get what you pay for so stick to decent brands and do your research up front. Watch out for my fave con were they quote the RRP to include VAT, but then quote their price without the VAT.

I never bother with meat or groceries, and stick to the special offer stuff for household. Morrisons does better for less, and the security guards and unmotivated staff give a comparable shopping experience! ;)

  • Sometimes where you sign in they have some credit sized cards which calculate how much each item is with the vat added on, making it easier to see how much you've spent.
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)
