Went about a fortnight ago, lost the will to live about half way round. My hubby bought some boots and was overcharged by £10, realised in the car park and he couldn't face going back in! Said he had still saved about £25 on them though. They were also advertising some 2nd stage childrens car seats for £30 - never seen any that cheap before - unfortunately the offer was so good they had run out.

surely they (makro) would make more money if they just TRIED to be competitive - let's face it, they're supposed to be supplying goods for resale (as per the entire "tradecard" thing). I really cannot see how corner shops etc make profit if they buy their goods from makro.
    can anyone enlighten me?
The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
    It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.
You ask for ADVICE not ADVISE.
  • Corner shops wouldn't dream of buying the bulk of their stock from Makro. Firstly it's far too expensive and secondly the range of groceries is absolutely abysmal. I have a better range in my little shop than Makro carries. I use it for 'top-up shopping' for the items that don't arrive on my main delivery, or I get cigs from there when they're on promotion. It would be impossible to make a living if Makro was your only point of supply.

Make sure you use your card every now and again, if you dont they cancel your membership and you have to re apply. I think they cancel after 6 months of non use.

don't forget to calculate the vat as a lot of cheapies arent cheap once vats added.

good for things like yogs when bogof or cheese etc as not vat anyway and sometimes slightly cheaper than the shops.

I use makro like a corner shop sometimes for milk or bread as its only over hte road, and occasionally get a bargain
The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile
  • i find it not much of a bargin once the VAT is added.
  • Best deals are in the meat section, where else can you get 60 slices of smoked Bacon for 6 quid!! and its not waifer thin slices either.

There's no VAT on meat either.
  • we get washing powder and other cleaning stuff from there as well as the meats. some of the offers used to be really good but now they are few and far between.

They are a good source for the hard to find stuff like the PS2 when it wasnt available the other christmas and some of the original ink cart twin pack wee good value when I was buying them.

alot of makro is being there at the right time makro mail is ok sometimes.
  • I cant do multipule quotes but some of the first posts were very harsh! I work for makro (have done for 7+ months) and i am looking for a new job. We arnt spotty teenagers, and would you want to stand on a frezzing door for 8hours+ being paid £5.39 just to stamp someones recipet.........thought not!! You want to know why all the offers are gone when 'you' arrive, well come on a wednesday morning (every other - makro mail release day) and see the queues of people (50 - 60) at the door at 7.30am, filling the trolleys up with all the offers, we havent got a policy on mail items regarding how many people can buy.

'We' (employes) arent always happy and bubbly due to the fact that you get paid pennies, you dont get your break untill you have worked at least 5 hours into your shift and more, you get customers telling you how many items they have, we work a checkout....we arnt thick!!, you need to be able to do 5 jobs at the same time, if something goes wrong regardless of if a manager or supervisor told you to do it you get the blame, to get a holiday or day off you have to go through so many managers that by the time they auth it your holiday has been and gone and to top it all those on flexi contract get there hours on a friday evening at 5.30pm (for the following week) even if you do finish that day at 3pm.

Also no one forces you to shop there you have signed up you wanted a card so if you dont like it there why keep you card valid?? yes many gold card customers are annoyed at the service they get due to the fact that (as they call them) the shop is full of 'asda shoppers'. This makes people angry and we get all the abuse.

Yes makro is expensive i have even told customers that, the point is people dont think if they can find it cheaper elsewhere. everyone forgets about the vat and i have even had people walk out because they hadnt added vat to things. At the end of the day, its a wholesale shop, a shop cant run if they dont make a profit, yes there is competitors, costco, staxs and bookers etc but makro is makro and to be honest they arent going to change if they dont take on board the employees comments they arnt going to listen to the customers!
