Start next month, with 3rd or 10th - then have a weeks holiday @ end of August so the real work will start in September!

Budget planner is complete & its tight BUT should be ok.

Its so strange how things turn out - when I started this diary I was quite smug about my abilities to juggle money & not drop any. Then redundancy hit & I had to look at everything again & we've made a few changes to keep costs down, ones that I wouldn't have thought of before. In fact, redoing the budget planner has led me to look at alternative suppliers for central heating cover....can HALVE that so will add renewal date to diary & shop around then instead of renewing it with BG.
Having the time off work has also helped me discover a new ability (ish), I can actually cook!!! more importantly, I quite enjoy it, especially when I'm using up bits that might otherwise be binned, so that should mean that the new grocery budget figure will be ok.

I suppose it goes to show that theres always something new to try to help either BE or STAY a DFW!!

Also - thank you to everyone whos been reading the up & downs of the last few months - without the support you've all shown, I'd be in a completely different place, can;t tell you how much I've appreciated being able to vent & whine & moan......

    Hi Lurker

Just found your diary and read through.

Well done on your new job! That is really exciting :j :j

I work for the Council and think they are good employers. You don't get the fancy benefits like big parties at Christmas or that kind of thing but flexible working is a big thing. Flexi is the best thing ever!

Also, when you get pregnant they are often very good about flexible working (compressed hours, part time, flexi hours etc etc)

There is also, generally, a lot of opportunities to move about and get other jobs within the council and the pension is a good one too.

I think benefits assessor could be a great job. My mum used to work in Housing Benefit and she found it rewarding when she had sorted out a claim for someone who wasn't getting what they were entitled to and were really struggling.

    :beer::beer::beer:
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Thanks makeup, the bit about flexible with pregnancy is added bonus ....thats next on my list....well in a few months maybe!!

& cocktails from F_F, means no hangover, like that better than beer!!

Think I'll assume at work from the 3rd so lists for the next few days will be housework related...dull but necessary

Hey Lurker - I've been reading your diary for a while now and just wanted to say a huge WELL DONE for your new job. Im getting the feeling that being made redundant has been the biggest blessing is disguise you could ever imagine! I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago and it made me persue a job that Ive wanted to do since I was little - and guess what - its everything I ever thought it would be and more and I can stand here now and say I love my job, something I never anticipated! With regard to the pay cut - well I believe that we all live to our current means. Back when I had my rubbish (but well paid job) I still had no cash it seemed, but recently I have managed to get rid of nearly all my debt, even on a reduced wage! So im sure you will adapt and never look back.

Congratulations from everyone here - Im sure everyone reading is chuffed to bits for you! Ped. x :T

    Thanks Ped,

a few years ago I was so sure I needed to earn at least £25k to be able to leave my job...but could never find one that paid that well - am not management or anything inteliigent. Redundancy has meant that debts (except mortgage) are repaid, there is still money in the bank & now I get to work where I wanted, so I can shop locally, use the library, leisure centre 9council run, get discount) all things I couldnt do before becuase I didnt have fixed place of work.

Plus without me suggesting it lovely OH started talking about my plans to get to work & him dropping me off - major result!! so he's joining the MSE club a bit more

Even in the early days I knew deep down it was a good thing, but as the weeks went by, the doubt started to creep in!

Right, better get my lazy butt into the shower - not going to be an unemployed bum much longer so best pull finger out & sort house etc

I have my start date - 10th August so another 2 & a half weeks off....I can cope with that!!

Do need to get back to listing jobs to do though as today has disappeared with nowt to show for it....although I did start shredding my job seach rubbish!!!

will be nice to read the local paper front to back rather than job section first!
