Pub / Restaurant suggestions please!
I'm after a decent, verging on 'posh' (fnar) pub/restaurant that I can hire either a function room or the entire pub for a big family function (actually it's my civil partnership - hopefully next year). Where would people recommend? I want good food but not overtly pompous food that my down-to-earth family members will turn their noses up at.
Candidates so far:
The Carrington Arms - Moulsoe
Bell Inn - Beachampton
The Walnut Tree - Blisworth
Navigation Inn - Cosgrove (I understand that the chef here at the moment is a Gordon Ramsey protege)
Boat Inn - Stoke Bruerne
Before I go off and try an evening meal at all of these to test the food, should I avoid any? Is there one in that list that stands out for you - if so, which one?
Is there anywhere that I've omitted? (The Crooked Billet has been dismissed as being 'too upmarket') - where would you recommend?
HTH
Oh, congratulations on the forthcoming celebration, btw.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
As lamewolf says The Boat Inn up in Stoke Bruerne is very nice. Very nice village aswell for a walk around. I'm sure the guests (and you) would love it.This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

we were at homebase yesterday, and as well as having a lot of vegetable plants in the sale, they were giving away free turf, just stacked out the front.
congrats indiegirl and enjoy choosing where to eat!0 -
Our pub of choice when looking for somewhere extra nice is the Carrington Arms at Moulsole - we also went there for our company Christmas do last year and my boss was also impressed. We like a relaxed friendly, good food well cooked, type of place.
Went to the Navigation Inn on a Friday a couple of weeks ago when we had the nice weather, and they had an hours wait for food!! Also seems a bit pricey to me.Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Gosh I killed the thread!
I had my 'food caddy' delivered (well, thrown outside my front door) yesterday, but I haven't had my green bin delivered. I'm in the '2nd phase' of the food/garden waste scheme so not starting for another 4 weeks, but does anyone know if the green bin should've been delivered at the same time?
Not that I'll be using the caddy - it'll be straight out with the food waste into the green bin - the caddy has the potential to be a dirty, smelly box within weeks...0 -

Thread now resurrected! LOL
Our caddy and green bin were both delivered yesterday - could a neighbour have accidentally nabbed yours? Ours did have the house number scribbled on the top in black marker, so if someone has one with your house number on, that'll be it.
Like you, on the rare occasions we have food waste (ie when we have cherries and I don't want to put the stones in the compost bin) we'll shove it straight in the green bin. I'm going to use my caddy for peelings etc, for transporting to the compost bin; it'll replace the (rather too small) old margarine tub I'm currently using. I'd been looking for a cheap compost crock for the kitchen, so MK Council have saved me the bother of purchasing one.:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I keep the food caddy for the stuff that can't be composted at home and keep it outside next to the green bin. I tip it into the big bin (wrapped in newspaper) and duly put that out weekly.
There isn't much left as we compost most stuff and don't waste.
I have a spare green bin if anyone wants one, as we already had one and another was delivered. I just haven't got found to letting the council know yet. We don't fill up one so two definitely aren't needed!somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Someone at MK Council must read this... I got home this evening to my green bin outside the door.
It couldn't have been better-timed... :-)0 -
That would be a bit big brotherish!somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0
