Are you looking for benefit advice or discounts by virtue of being a carer? This is an old thread, it would be worth starting a new one with any more specific queries.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • You cannot claim carer's Allowance if the person you care for receives DLA care component at the lower rate - only at middle or high rate.

    Hi All,

Most areas have Carers Support Services or Carers Centres, there is of course the national organisations such as Carers UK, Crossroads and Princes Royal Trust for Carers who will have a stack of information. Each council has its own way of helping carers (and hopefully still will after the budget) whether its free holiday homes, direct payments for carers (£300 in Hull as 'treat money' purely for the carer) carer support groups, trips out, courses as well as general one to one assistance or newsletters. Its definately worth picking up the phone.

Carers save the government £87billion a year so find out whats out there for you sooner rather than later as they wont back pay!!!

    Good luck x
  • Hi,
'Treat Money', I wanted to get to a support group, it was in the evening, 1 evening per month for 2hrs, so that's 2hrs per month. I would have liked to attend this support group but due to my sons conditions I could not get one anywhere, so I cannot go, Crossroads wouldn't help, Banardos wouldnt help, my son was having sessional support, this could have been great but the group is 7pm-9pm, my son comes home at 7pm.
What is this 'treat money' for, I have already been told no funding left for decoraters, gardeners, and for holidays.
    Is this correct please
    Thanx

hi all, thanks for all the useful info.

Just wondering if alton towers/legoland take tesco vouchers for the disabled/carer ticket?

Also, Westfield shopping centre in london gives 4 hour free parking if you have blue badge- i think only monday- fridays. you need the badge and the disabled person to get this.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd add a new one, don't know if this has already been mentioned.

Marwell Zoo offers discounted tickets for disabled people, and if you have another adult with you they get in free as your carer. My best friend and I did this just a few weeks ago, and they weren't even bothered about seeing proof of my disability, even though I'd taken my DLA letter along to wave at them!
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

There is a long thread on the Disability and Dosh board about discounts for the disabled - many places offer carer places for free.
  • Do you have children with a disability or special needs? Google Merlins Wand and you can apply between 12 & 5pm for tickets for your family to vist Legoland/chessington/madame tussauds only one claim a year but they can sometimes help towards transport too.

Cerebra Innovation Centre adapt/build equipment where there is nothing suitable already on the market to meet your childs needs. E.g my 7yr old has Chronic Lung Disease and is oxygen dependant 24/7 she has Cerebral Palsy and learnt to walk this year we could not find an oxygen trolley suitable for her to pull around to enable her to be independant Cerebra adapted a trunki to carry her oxygen now she can walk into and around school without assistance!:A
