Has your income support gone up since the DLA was awarded - you should have an extra £49.69 per week (unless child has more than £3000 savings).

hi i havent noticed any change in my income support yet, i only got the letter to say he qualified on saturday(yesterday). Will the income support change automatically or do i have to ring them up, i know i have to call to tell them my son gets DLA so they can update my file ect.
so does it go up by £49.69 and then the £27.15 on top or will the £49.69 be reduced to £27.15. will it affect my other child who doesnt have any disability?
im very new to all this and am utterly confussed.0 -
You have to ring them up about any changes.0

Free transport depends where you live, I know Wales used to offer free travel for carers. In some areas you don't need to usually receive higher rate mobility or have a specific condition for a bus pass but you do where we live. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
If you are aged between 16 and 60, on a low income, not working or working on average less than 16 hours a week you may be able to claim Income Support. If you're also entitled to Carer's Allowance, you may be able to get an extra amount included in your Income Support. This is called a 'carer premium'.

Post by poppycat here referring to his disabled daughter having a pass and being able to travel with her.

Thanks Edinburghlass! I have asked Social Services, my OT and my GP about this but with no luck. I was given a Freedom Pass recently and even asked there and they said that the carer couldnt go free. It doesnt make a lot of sense really.
My OH has just applied for a discount card being on IS and a new Oyster card which means he pays 45p on each journey via bus...which is pretty good value really. I cant remember the last time I went on a bus as its so difficult using the wheelchair and other people are so rude and impatient.
My Freedom pass entitles me to free travel on all Buses at all times, Free Trains (slightly restricted times), Free Tube Travel at all times and Free Travel at all times on the DLR.
We are planning an evening away for a show in December as its our 15th Aniiversary and would love to stay in a nice hotel after and go out for a meal.....do you think this is possible in my wheels using the tubes etc???
Thanks

You need to tell them. Your income support will go up by £69.69+£27.15.
You will also be entitled to put in a claim for a grant from the Family Fund charity if you need anything - you can only do it once a year, and generally the opinion is the biggest pay award is the first one - so apply for the biggest things first. They will also pay towards holidays, driving lessons, etc

hi , thanks for the link , thats a fantastic charity. we are not in need of anything at the moment, we tend to rely on freecycle to get us out of difficult need , especially with the likes of fridges ect. I will save the link for future need if they arrise.
i called jobcentreplus today and was told i will get the disabled child premium of £48.72 when the details get sent over from DLA. i was told that my personal money from income support will reduce from £60.50 to £4.95 with the addition of £27.75 for carers premium when awarded. The £55.55 carers allowance will come direct from carers as a seperate payment.
I understand this now, please how do you make the sum of £69.69?
Also , i have called council tax benefit to inform them also, i have to take my sons award to them for scanning , they will then work out if i have got to pay any council tax. does anyone have any advice on this i used the online calculator and it says award of £18.40 per week. still not sure how to understand if that mean i will have anything to pay or not.
One good thing though , turns out i have a rebate on my council tax from way back that was never repaid to me! so some good came from my call at least so far .0 -
