High Gas Bill This Quarter!!!

Hi

I have a 4 bedroom bungalow.
I have a wife and 2 kids under 10.
I have just received a bill for £660 for this past quarter, I don't use DD.
The reading appears to be correct but I'm gobsmacked at the amount.
I would say we were normal users, both out working all day, no point in being anything but honest here.
I phoned them up to query it and the operator just said "dunno, I can't tell how you use your gas". Useless. Why is he even there?

Any advice? Can it be this high? NB - this is gas-only, no leccy included here.

Seems a normal enough bill for this winter. If you haven't been using your heating you can check if you suffer the metric-meter-but-imperial-billing problem but the more likely reason is the four bedrooms and the winter being cold.
  • Thanks.
Anyone out there know what efficiency settings on a baxi combi-boiler should be?
Hopefully, it's currently up too high and I can change them tonight?
    Help appreciated, thx.
  • Has your gas company asked for meter readings day and night for the next 7 days?

I have just recieved a £900 bill for 3 months worth of gas but they think its not right and they have asked me to do meter readings for next 7 days.

ring them back up and ask if they could check it by doing meter readings.
  • Cheers.
No, the British Gas guy just sat like a plum at the other end of the phone line.
And after yesterday's profits announcement, I felt like dragging him through the phone, believe me.
I actually felt it was a deliberate attempt to get me to never phone back ever again, he couldn't have cared less.

Remember gas prices shot up last year, well over 30%. To get a gas bill like that only needs you to be a little over indulgent with your thermostat, so that your boiler is working away hour after hour.

I had my heating on a 5hrs a day with the thermostat set at 20c, and I still used £270 worth of gas this quarter. But using an online tariff and monthly DD, I received a 40 quid discount!

Turn the thermostat down, insulate your house to best of your ability and buy everyone a jumper. We switched the heating off when the kids were asleep, the Mrs sat under our summer quilt (soft southerner;)) I used 30-35% less gas than last winter, and its been a lot colder.
  • albion ask to speak to a supervisor .
My gas usage was unusually high so alerted the computer to freeze my account.

Is your bill alot different from you last bill?
  • 50% up from same quarter last year.

And to think I thought the quarterly bill I had a month or so ago for £175 was excessively high.
