Presuming you did not give up work voluntarily, in which case there would likely be a sanction, You would receive (rounded):

    JSA couple rate - £95
CTC for two children - £86
Child benefit - £33 (same as you get now)

So basically (omitting the CB as you get it now) £181 per week or £785 per month.

You'd pay no council tax and you'd get the interest paid on your mortgage after 13 weeks.

Your children would receive free school meals.

You'd receive free prescriptions and dental care (if indeed you have an NHS dentist - I am entitled to free dental care but pay about £40 a month for me and two children because there are no NHS dentists in our area).

And free eye tests and free glasses, if you are happy to have the free ones - otherwise so much off a more expensive pair.

And of course it would be cheaper to send your child on holiday.

ETA: you can have a look on your local council website to see what the LHA is for your area. It may not be £700. You also need to check if you'd get the three bed rate as you may only get the two bed rate if your children are the same sex or under a certain age.

    thanks for this...
    interesting reading..
i suppose it all depends how much the mortgage is and council tax
think we would be about the same if not slightly worse off

Your husband's job sounds very target based and geared towards achieving goals, next time something like that holiday thing gets to you just remember how bored he would probably be not working and achieving those goals :)

  • I noticed since you were shown to be looking like a fool over the holiday comments youve ignored the posts where you were proven wrong

In futer perhaps you should check details properly before posting in haste.
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

Personally i would do it sooner rather than later...some people don't visit the travel section often, now you have highlighted cheap holidays for people on IS and working tax they may well go very quickly.

I 100% agree that this country should have a benefits system in place as you never know what is round the corner.

What I do not beleive in however is the total unfairness of the one we have in place.

Why when my husband works 12 hours a day 6/7 days a week does it work out that we would be better off on benefits (I have done the entitledto.com) thing. We dont get any help (apart from the tiny statutary child one) at all. He takes home 1400 per month. now try paying a mortgage running a car feeding 2 kids 2 adults and 2 cats council tax, bills car ect with that.

now i read about this lovely activity holiday place that you can send your kids too for 299 per child or 49 if you are on benefits

    come on
are they tring to encourage people not too work

I might be wrong, in fact I would love to be wrong Iwould love to hear from someone who is married has 2 kids and is loads worse off on benefits (bearing in mind rent council tax reduction ect) Im not knocking you as I have previously said I 100% beleive in them but there sould be some sort of help out there for people who do work as well.

I`m sorry but you are WRONG WRONG WRONG,for starters your family allowance is over £1500 a year, your mortgage i assume has falllen dramatically in recent months, the cost of running a car has also fallen as petrol is 30p a litre cheaper than last year, you dont mention any income of your own,do you not believe in work?
As for the £49 holidays please give me a link as my sons stepkids havent had a holiday for 5 years as they survive on benefits due to a terminally child.
There is plenty of help for those who work and qualify for help, ctc wtc even housing and council tax benefits for the low paid.

;) We all make mistakes...after all we are only human. Sadly the holiday thing is no use to me lol as it's based in England and not Scotland :weep: guess i will have to save just like everyone else :D

    Ok my benefits question is....

Am I better off on benefits????

Instead of moaning and whining about it the solution is in your hands, get the husband who you never see(he works 84 hours a week)to pack up work and see how easy life is on benefits, trust me you wont find it easy at all:mad:
