My email was taking an eternity to download a couple of weeks ago.
It's a good idea to try a "reboot" of your equipment.
Firstly close down your PC's and Laptops and then disconnect your modem and wireless router (if applicable) and wait a couple of minutes.
Plug the power back in to the cable router and wait a while for the ready lights to go steady - about 30 secs. Next plug in the power to your wireless router and wait again - say 1 min. Now turn the PC back on and hopefully things will be better. Sometimes modems get upset by power surges and noisy electrical supplies.

Any idea what will happen to my 10Mb service? Auto upgrade to 20?

If you are out of contract you can phone up VM and select the options you want to leave and then tell them, you aren't happy paying a higher price for your services than others, often you'll get a discount to remain with VM.
