The charge is only 0.84% rising to 1% in July. It's nothing like the 2.75% commission plus handling fee that other cards charge.

This is a problem for me too. Usually I travel in Europe but sods law being what it is, I'm planning to go outside Europe after May. I'm fed up of changing bank accounts but if I can get a better deal, I may have no choice.

For debit cards/cash access there's no way there'll be any better deal. NW isn't doing this for profit, only to stop making a loss on the small charge imposed by Visa outside the Europe. For extra-Europe credit card transactions there are currently slightly better deals available, but how long they'll last is anyone's guess.

But how does changing cards affect a person's credit score? I, for one, like the Nationwide and have been happy to use it so am planning to keep it as my main card. But I'd still like a card with 0% interest for non-European trips so would it be a bad thing to have the extra card?

And as a side note - how come Turkey is included in Europe and not Tunisia, when my travel insurance includes it and seems to define "Europe" as anything touching the Med?

Turkey is in both Europe and Asia (Eurasian), Tunisia is in Africa.
For Turkey travellers, let's hope NW keep it as No fee charged.

Any application for credit causes a search to be made on your records/history. Too many searches makes it look like you're applying for a lot of credit or being refused it and therefore lowers your score for subsequent searches. Not a problem for infrequent changes but could be for "card tarts" etc.

Thanks - I know this was off topic but it's set my mind at rest, since I've had the same card for about five years!

    Hi

Firstly apologies if this has already been discussed. I don't visit these boards that much anymore (due to no longer living in the UK and much of what is on these boards is no longer relevant to me) so I don't know if this has already been discussed. I have tried searching the boards, but have not found any reference to this.

It seems Nationwide will be upping its charges from June on foreign transactions on both its credit and debit card:

(well basically passing on the 1% visa conversion rate).

Could you say which others are free to use ATMs or shop outside UK? I mean free of commission or exchange fees as NW have been
