    any thoughts??

Yip. Your good common sense seemed to be overshadowed by your sense of indignance.

You turned a small inconvenience into a huge drama.

I completely understand what a pain it must have been to be stopped like that, but from what you've said, I can also understand why you were stopped by people who were only doing their job. You could have helped clear this up in seconds, but you chose not to. So I'm not sure why you think you have cause for complaint tbh.

To be absolutely honest, I read the original post and was thinking 'this must be a wind up'....

Ah, what the hell. Take them to court!!
  • I cant believe you wasted not only your own time but everyone elses with this, sure not nice being accused of stealing in front of everyone but you made yourself look guilty by just not showing the reciept.

I regularly put my groceries in my bag or trolley and regularly get followed by security guards, they usually watch me at the till and leave me be. I smile at them and they still check me out because it's their job, i'm not using a basket or paying for a trouble so by making it easier for myself (ie using my own bag/trolley so i know i've not bought more than i can carry) I tolerate security guard scrutiny. No biggie for me;)

Hi, any advice would be appretiated...
    Put it down to experience!
Yes....you had done nothing wrong by putting the (paid for) magazines in your bag while on the shop floor, however the security staff had no way of knowing that!
Even if the SA could confirm the sale of the magazines, the security were alerted by

They said as someone reported me putting stuff in ma bag in the store, so i said u must be accusing me of something then?
so they still have a duty to protect the stores goods.

You were unwilling to comply with a reasonable request, and so the situation blew out of proportion.

They have no "rights" to physically search you, so as you were being "uncooperative" and you were requesting the police, they obviously complied, resulting in more wasted time for everyone, and you having to do what you could have done in the first place.

Although you have not, at any time, from what you have told us, done anything wrong, you could have made life an awful lot easier for yourself, by realising that these guys have a job to do, and you could have produced your receipt straight away to stop any embarrassment to anyone.

It sounds to me that the security team handled the situation well. :TYou have not mentioned any rudeness, allegations, or unnecessary physical contact, from them.

It's obviously not what you wanted to hear, but what do you think you would have done better/differently if you were security, and you were informed (perhaps by a well-meaning member of the public) of some-one putting some items in their rucksack, and only paying for other items at the till?

If you find yourself banned from the store.....it's private property and they don't need to give a reason!....and are having trouble using your coupons from best mag, remember all your fellow MSE'ers that could use them for you;)
It's nice to be nice .....
You HAVE checked google before asking, haven't you?;)
If you use the "search this thread" button at the top of the page, you may find it's been answered already!;)

I would not show them unless police were presant as i think i may have rights

I'm puzzled over what 'rights' you thought have might have had. The 'right' not to show your receipt seems a somewhat useless right, and I can't imagine why you would choose to enforce it? What other 'rights' were you sticking up for?

Also, how exactly do we know he bought 23 copies of Best? I can't see anywhere the OP says this, am I missing something? Or is it yet another joke I just don't get...

Im totally with you on that.

At the end of the day, youve made a mountain out of a mole hill. YOU have blown this out of all proportion. What rights did you think you had!
