Happened to me today also. I have recently started using the sniper on Goofbay. Also, last night I signed up as a trading assistant and wondered if that could have had something to do with it.

I bet it is to do with Goofbay rather than the trading assistant registration. I got an email to say my account had been compromised at 7.50 this morning and I was on my computer at 8.10. I've traded on ebay since 2001 and never had a problem before.

I found out about goofbay from an MSE weekly mail too. I usually trust information contained in those.

What I dont understand is, if they list items on your account, how are they then going to get hold of money paid over? I never use the same password twice for anything and I am presuming that perhaps they hope you use the same one as your PAYPAL account.

i used goofbay the other day too so it looks like someone's managed to get login details from there.
    :D
  • Happend to me this morning too. Grrr....possibly it is Goofbay's security being compromised as I used it over the weekend. Although I did buy of a seller with zero feedback who hasn't been in touch with me since the auction ended...just a thought. I got help via ebay's 24hr instant 'chat' help thingy they talked me through resetting p/words etc. Although I had to change my paypal email and p/word too, to be on the safe side. What a palaver!!! never had any probs with ebay or Goofbay before. But will wait awhile before resetting Goofbay P/word etc

This happened to me today and I used Goofbay over the weekend - there is another thread somewhere else on mse I just posted on their too - it has happened to loads of people today. All have the same thing in common - they have used a sniper. I am going to avoid using a sniper again.

Happened to me today aswell, yesterday i used goofbay, do i need to stop using it? I couldn't reset my password had to use the live help, apparently they had rest my security questions too, can log in now. Had a busy day changing all the passwords i have online, as some of them are quite similar, but now i have to write them down as i will never remember them.

Perhaps this is something we should make MSE aware of. I'm sure I started using goofbay sniper after reading a recommendation in a weekly MSE mail.

I'd love to see what they listed on my account, when it occurred and from what Country? How did they know my account had been hacked? Its all very intriguing.

I've tried to find that 24hr instant chat help link on ebay without success. Where does it appear on the page?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

I think the mis spellings bit would be ok as you are not putting in your ebay user ID and password. The sniper service requires you to do this, so this is why I think the goofbay site has been infiltrated by fraudsters and they have obtained our details. Incidentally I have sent an email to the site to draw their attention to what people are saying.
