The London edition costs £2.50 per week (January 2006 prices) and has a circulation of 86,000 copies and a readership of 374,000 people (Jan-Jun 2003 figures).

And they've had 85000 applications. So what's the problem? ALL their readers have applied. Isn't that great? They should be happy!

Leon i think you have missed something from this forum, the fact that a lot of people applied who weren't entitled, so are you trying to tell me that every member applied, meaning that all the places were taken by genuine readers of the magazine, bull shnizzel. Because from this forum you can see the amount of people who applied and shouldn't have!

Leon would you be happy if you had been ripped off by 20'000 con artists, I think not.

hang on, if their readership is 374,000, and the offer was open to all readers of time out, conceivably, cdwow could have received 374,000 genuine applications. happily for cdwow, they only received 85,000.

    wheres the problem?

if cdwow didnt want people to apply unless they had bought the mag they should of put a slip in to post to them then they would of done so at their own expense quoting their email addresses. dont forget people pass magazines on and they are in dentists doctors etc . they should honour every application they get.

I'm sure if cd wow had only recieved genuine customers of timeout applying, then i doubt there would have been a problem, i even think that CD WOW probably would honoured the deal. Do you honestly think that CD WOW or timeout don't check sites like this? This would then show them that people are trying to get vouchers without reading the magazine, so adjusted how they deal with the problem.

I would guess that the fact that this offer was put on this site in the first place might be why CD Wow/timeout rejected so many people.

The offer was only available to UK residents
London issue sells 80 odd thousand copies - majority of which are in london.

i'll bet you anything if cd-wow showed us a list of people who applied, the majority of them would be people who live a long long way from london (and yes i know that there is a possibility that they might commute or be on a day trip - but people who go on a day trip are unlikely to buy a magazine advising of whats on in london in the coming months)

The average response on any kind of beneficial offer is less than a quarter.

The most they would have expected would be around 20000, if that.

The problem is that it is very unlikely for the whole readership to respond to one offer. a large percentage won't be regular internet shoppers. and a fair portion would not be bothered about £8.75. Of the rest a large number of the magazines will be discarded as as soon as they are read, some people will just lose the magazine and others will just ignore it.

Assuming that the figures given by Martin are correct, there has to be a ridiculous amount of fraud to have gone on.

    there's your problem right there.

Noone's debating that, but it's cdwow's stupid fault for allowing it to happen in the first place, and as such they should pay out to everyone and learn for future promotions. If they only expected 20,000 people to sign up, they should have put a limit in place and stated it in the T&Cs. They didn't, so they have no excuse in my opinion.

    blagger beware

I was only joking, it was you who didn't get the irony. If I were them I would offer the voucher when you buy 2 CD, otherwise it's going to be very bad publicity for them - 85000 customers, if not lost, at least not very impressed.
