My daughters school went bust today.

One thing I would consider is whether it will be in her best interests to attend three different schools in one year - making new friends, there may be prejudice in Roedean against the girls coming in from your doughters school... teenage politics are a minefield if I remember rightly

It would be a great experience, but then stability would be a great thing too.0 -

I take it the year taking exams has been given a good deal to try and avoid the turmoil of a big change0

Yes..the times link had the numbers.
Some unhappy parents out there...which I can totally understand.
It was a small school, everyone knew everybody. The head knew every pupil well. Any issues were dealt with amazingly (in my experience) and always quickly.
It was non selective so there was a broad range of ability which made for a good mix.
I can't comment on the figures at all, not my place, but seems they had a big debt, built a new Juniors building, and then the sums didn't add up.0 -
yes my son does go to rugby, and i am probably one of the lowest paid parents there, with regards to the subsidy ,it all stems from lawrence sherrifs will that his estate provides education for local boys ,which was why lawrence sheriff was built in the first place and was originally called the lower school, but although the school is now state funded they still get money from the london estate every year,mini_cooper wrote: »I would prefer not to say which grammar school (Sheriff or High School) but I am amazed that Rugby subsidise a state school.
I cannot make out if your child attends Rugby, but the uniforms are very strange (girls in ankle length skirts!!), but the students from Rugby are always in M&S doing shopping and bad shoes, ripped jackets and untidy hair are the norm for both boys and girls.
like others have said 99% of the kids do not care about your monetery background and accept you for the person you areHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I don't get hte problem, school goes into a merger, you have place at new school for same amount. Whatever decisions regarding moving or not are kind of irrelevent. Also has the school closed it's doors as of now or will the change be in September?
If you decide to go to a state school then be quick, I work for schools and they are all being phoned up by private paretns trying to get places as they can no longer afford the fees. Problem is there are no places left now in schools in my area (London suburbs). In fact the LEA has created 2 new reception classes for next year as so few reception children are opting for private.Riding out the receession.........0 -
one thing to remember, if ordering a takeaway with other pupils - make sure YOU get any bulk discount, and not the head of house / matron whatever (one took full price from pupils, but didnt pass on discount.. tut tut!)Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0
