What would you do? It's very MSE fees wise.

I had a group of them back in the house today (cooking pancakes as they were all stressed out by the news ) and they were all pensive about the school and it's status etc. DD best friend is on full scholarship and lives on the local estate, both were fretting about being too embarrassed about bring new mates back to their houses etc.

No need to stress for them whatsoever. I'll pm you ;)
  • There are far too many schools going bust ATM. What irks me is the fact that they shut shop almost overnight giving parents little no practical notice to make other arrangements. Rodean is a good school, and not badly priced compared to a school near me (£29,000pa:eek: ) Most important for you/DD is stability in her GCSE years, her happiness, and social life comes into that. Guess you will have to do the number crunching to see if you can afford for her to go there.

I used to live in E.Sussex and state schools leave a lot to be desired, hence we moved back to Kent some years ago, so my brats had the opportunity to attend Grammar School, schools that have come under a lot of preassure with recent private school closures here.

Aarrrrggghhhh... What a horrible situation. You won't get a flaming here.

School closure is something that my brother's and cousin's children have faced recently (albeit in the state sector), some of my comments are based on their own experience.

My first instinct would be to speak to the other parents. You will have more negotiating power and influence as a group that way, and your daughter gets to stay with her peer group.

    Roedean is fine if:

    a. Your daughter likes it
    b. It gives her an equivalent learning environment to the one she's in.
    c. There isn't small print saying that the prices are only held for one year and you're stiffed after that
    d. You're aware of the other choices available and can make the decision in position of the facts.

If you aren't getting a yes to those then the alternatives warrant serious concern. In the cousin's case she has had to move her daughter a second time because the school wasn't right. So it is important to have the right 'gut feel', but equally to have the courage of your convictions if for any reason the new school doesn't work out all its cracked up to be.

    What does your daughter think?

    Let her go to Roedean.

  • a quick PS

I guess the model of these schools is now wrong, most of them seem to be bending over backwards to retain Charitable status, and I think they are missing better financial opportunities in doing so.

I think it would be better if they sold the schools to a commercial venture and put the revenue from that sale into a charitable educational trust
