Maybe play the race card too. That often works...
Call me a cynic, but I don't see how admitting that he was in a race at the time is going to help him with this one.....

Why is everyone in such a rush?

I drive 25 000 miles a year to work, a long commute I know. Most of it on the M25/M11 and 406. The best decision I made was to slow down and save fuel. Ive cut my fuel bill by at least a 100 quid a month, straight into my pocket. Its far less stressful too, sitting 2ft from someones bumper must carry as degree of stress, and prove fatal in sudden braking.

Slow down, you save money, you may save a life and possibly extend yours.

Why do people speed up behind someones bumper in the outside lane to try and force them to move over only to be confronted by 20+ other cars in the lane they then get stuck behind

BUT it is possible for the outside lane to all be doing 90mph with loads of bumper clearance, and adequate braking distances.

Yes of course its possible, maybe at 3am. Not on any busy motorway Ive driven on. If an adequate gap is left, some muppet filters into the space, thereby not an adequate breaking distance is left. Repeat ad nauseum, till you reach your destination.

What really annoys me is braking of any sort on the motorway. Its is simply not necessary unless someone crashes in front of you or something like that.

I get annoyed by people who leave massive 1/2 mile gaps in the fast lane, between them and the car in front. Get your brakes checked if they're that crap !!!!!!.

Its not the fast lane, its an overtaking lane, of which there are two. Although there are plenty lazy/incompetent drivers who sit there oblivious to the fact they shouldn't.
