  • Karrimor got brought buy Sports direct a couple of years ago. The quality of the boots in sportsdirect are not the same as those in the outdoor shops. The sports direct stuff is cheap and not using the same technologies. If you go to gear-zone.co.uk you will see the original Karrimor boots. These have Vibram soles and Event waterproof linings and are a much better quality. I wouldnt wear the sports direct ones. You are only buying the name and not the real deal.

Some of the Karrimor gear in Millets/Blacks (there the same company) are licensed product - If it's Karrimor Pro, its licensed and again is not in normal outdoor stores. Hopefully this helps.

  • Yes, some of the Karrimor gear at Sports Direct is cheap.

However the ones that are mentioned in this post are the real thing, top quality with the Vibram and the eVent fabric. You can easily tell, because it says Vibram on the sole.

There is still plenty of stock still available in store.

Hi, take this advice if you are thinking of buying a pair of Karrimor boots/trainers from Sports Dirct.

I purchased a pair of Karrimor trainers in December 08, they were a great fit and reduced by 70%, bargain I thought, but just 7 months later they ready for the bin. They have developed a hole at the back of the sole, I took them back to the store and the manager said they had been "Overworn". He said they only have to exchange if you bring them back in a reasonable amount of time (although he refused to tell me how long a reasonable amount of time was!)

I just hope this helps someone who is thinking of buying anything from Sports Direct (ask about their refund/exchange policy before you buy), I don't know what is worse, the karrimor trainers or the customer service.

Sorry that I've only just spotted this thread.

Do bear in mind that unlike virtually every other walking boot seller (including TK Maxx) Sports Direct will NOT refund your money if you take the boots home, give them a decent trial by walking round indoors in them for a few hours, then take them back next day when if the longer test shows up problems. They have a company policy that if the boots are not faulty, they will only give a credit note/gift voucher.

On the subject of Karrimor boots in general, the newer ones are excellent quality. I walk three or four times a week, generally on hill and moorland, covering 1,500 miles plus a year, so I do have some experience. The time to buy the bargains is at the end of the season, when models are discontinued.

Another point is that Karrimor will tell you the name of new boots that use the same last as discontinued lines. Generally, they seem to produce one leather boot and one fabric boot from each last - the old Coniston model, for example, has been carried forward into the ksb 300 eVent and ksb Skye X-Lite eVent models.
