    And 6% Quidco
  • Karrimor went bust a few years ago and the brand was bought by several different suppliers. Whereas it used to be an excellent brand with a guarantee worth paying for it is now a bit hit and miss.

My old Karrimor rucksacks (12 years old) are still going strong and my approach shoes are still great after five years. But I would be really wary about their shoes now. Friends have been very disappointed with them and they look a bit shoddy. I bought a Karrimor flask for my bloke this Christmas and the bottom keeps falling off. Not ideal.

For anyone who does a lot of walking it would probably be wiser to get something better quality that will last for a few years, even if it costs a few quid more.

That would explain a lot. I had a Karrimor rucksack in my scouting days, it lasted for years, countless holidays, inter-railing around Europe, backwards and forward as a student. Eventually it did die of old age. Quality was top notch.

I bought a pair of Karrimor shoes from Millets just before Christmas, I had to take them back in januray as one of the hooks for the laces broke. I got a new pair from Blacks and must admit they are already looking a bit worse for wear.

Shame to hear that a company with a reputation for quality has gone so far downhill.

Yep, I wouldn’t buy these ever again.

I bought a pair of karrimor eVent boots from Millets about 4 years ago. Last year I spotted these karrimors from sports world and quickly snapped up a pair. The quality difference is unbelievable when the pair are side by side even the labels look cheaper. Needless to say they only lasted me 3 months before I binned them, where as my original karrimors are still going strong with constant use. Even Lidls boots seem better quality. Just the other week I was in sports world and the current stock is no better.

Why would they make these substandard shoes/boots when they have such a good reputation?

I seen this was on the weekly email, and thought how many people are now going to buy these cheap and nasty shoes. This should never have been put on the email.

    DON’T BUY THESE SHOES/BOOTS

Try it yourself, go into millets or blacks and try a pair of proper karrimors, then go to sports world and see which ones you would rather buy

Why on earth did you bin them instead of invoking your statutory rights that the product must be "fit for purpose" and "of merchantable quality"? It was within 6 months! If everyone did this strictly and held retailers (and therefore manufacturers, especially if the retailers own them) to account, then they'd be more careful about quality control than marketing.WE make the world we live in...

Me & OH bought a pair each just after Christmas, and whilst they've not got as much use as I would have liked, they seem ok to me (but then, I'm no expert). they were very handy in all the snow we had....

Just wanted to say, ladies with small feet, do check out the kids sizes. I was in store, and was disappointed that they didn't have the size 5s I wanted in the ladies (£23.99 or there abouts)

Absolutely delighted though, when I realised the exact same style was in the kids section, and went up to a size 5.5 - and they had my size - £11.99!!!

    bargain!

Bought OH a pair of Orkney 2 (with the Vibram soles) for £38.99 to replace the Brashers he's had for over 10 years. Whilst they dont match up to his old pair (but they were £140 then) he is very pleased with them. Thanks OP.

I too bought a pair of Karrimore shoes from Sports Direct - the were absolute rubbish - badly fitting and caused sores on my toes - in fact they were unwearable.
  • Hi,

Wanted to add to this. I hardly ever post on here, but for once a thread I know a little about has come up!

Karrimor when into recievership in 2004 at which point Sports Direct began marketing and selling Karrimor products. The wikipedia stub for this company is relatively informative and explains a lot:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karrimor

My girlfriend and I bought a pair of walking boots, 2 pairs of walking shoes, 2 camp mats and a sleeping bag from Sports Direct when they first began to sell Karrimor stock. The quality of these items was very very good, and I assume Sports Direct were liquidating stock at this time. The reason for my purchase is because I bought a Karrimor rucksack in 2001 which is still in ship shape after 8 years of travel and it has put up with a lot.

Since then, the shoes and boots that are marketed under very similar names (some with a '2' after indicating the new model) are visibly of poor quality and I would warn serious buyers to look very closely at the quality of build before making a purchase. The quality problems are particularly visible if you look closely at the join of the sole to the boot/shoe.

Karrimor was a well respected brand and I hope not too many people are fooled by these 'dropped prices' (~£20 for shoes a bit more for boots) as SD have had them at these prices for three or four years on general availability.

It is a shame to dilute such a solid british hiking name.

I forgot to add - Sport Direct has a habit of doing this - for example the sell inferior Diadora products too - In Italy this is a respected premium brand that even has it's own stores in designer Outlets - nothing like the products sold here in S D
