Anyone have any updates on the Block Exemption?

I've had some say that it would be a good idea if consumers are forced back to the dealers. Shake them up a bit... :o Not too sure of that.

Car makers know that they can make good money charging consumers for diagnostic work on the vehicles.

I've never owned a vehicle with a warranty, so it doesn't directly affect me. However, I'm sure that the same manufacturers would love to do away with DIY servicing and independent garages. All under a load of greenwash or safety bull crap no doubt.

I work for an independent and there are very few cars that we can't diagnose - costs us quite alot for the equipment, but you have to have it. So you don't necessarily have to go to a dealership for diagnosis - at the moment. This is one reason why it is important to sign the petition - unless you welcome the monopoly.

Have signed up Jeannie - but as I don't ride that particular bus would you mind if I passed on sleeping with you?:D

Thanks for posting this. Used to work for a motor manufacturer years ago (Citroen UK) and I always thought that it was unfair then that all work during warranty had to be done by the dealers, although tbf, sometimes we did see "work" done by independent garages that was beyond belief - also saw equally carp work done by own dealers though, so again price/hour and even dealer status is no guarantee of either knowledge or integrity:D .

I've heard of some independant garages, especially those involed in re-maps / chip tuning, having better equipment than dealers.
Autologic is a common one I here and there is more than one version of it, main dealers tend to go for the cheaper one.
Ah there you go , all the "premium" German brands and others covered without going near a BMW/MB/Audi etc. dealer :

BER running out...... As in BLOCK EXEMPTION - running out next year!!!

Not good news at all - please sign the petition :D - surely they can't do this now in this economic climate!!! :o

Edit: I'm not sure everyone knows about the block exemption act (2003) regarding allowing consumers to take their vehicles to independent garages for servicing whilst under warranty. If you did, and approved, it is due to run out next year. If you want it renewed and to continue to give you the freedom of choice, then it would be a good idea to visit the site above. Which also tells you of the impact of other decisions too which could affect you - especially in the pocket!

    I don't understand it Jeannie:o :o:o:o

Oh & like Moggie, you not jumping on my bones even if I do sign it:rolleyes: :rotfl:

Thanks for signing - and you really really don't have to pay me in kind, instead you have to forward payment on to whatever one takes your fancy, Goldie is NOT up for grabs.. but the others are fair game. :D

Thank you for warning me of your gender - as I already have 'chatted and flirted' with Nile, thanks to Crabman setting me up, the bar steward.

Re garages, to get back on topic. Good and bad all round. The consumer really has to do their homework, like you, we have come across cars that have been allegedly serviced by dealers and they are in an appalling state, yet others that are fine and other independents that are fine. But consumers should have the choice and it is that that I object to, having the choice taken away. I hate being told what to do...

Next they'll be wanting to tax chocolate......... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
