SA's voyage through bankruptcy ......

Good Morning everyone.....
Happy Mothers Day to all of you who qualify!!!!
I have a day off today (wow!) and am going to go for a long walk in this lovely sunshine.
Two very sad events this week have left me counting my blessings - the early and tragic deaths of Natasha Richardson and Jade Goody, both daughters, wives, and mothers and so sad. It has made me realise that my "troubles" all pail in comparison to this - for them there is no future, no tomorrow. I have sort of made a resolution to myself that the next time I start feeling sorry for myself I will remember that it could be far worse.
I went out for dinner last night with my social club ( I don't think of it as a singles event) and it was very nice. Others went off to check out the local nightspots afterwards but it was home early for me to watch Andy Murray beat Roger Federer (again) in the Indian Wells tennis. Apologies to non sport lovers! Final today - Murray v Nadal ......
A quietish week this week - but I have managed to sell some stuff on ebay and with the proceeds I am going horseriding twice - yippee - a lesson on Wednesday and next Sunday for a long ride on the Yorkshire Moors. I hope the weather is decent.
I have also got an appointment with my councellor - we have got to 3 week intervals now, which is good, and I have been working on the self help book that he suggested I buy. It is good, with lots of pictures, so I don't get too bogged down.....
Have a good day and apparently the good weather wont last so make the most of it.....
Hugs to you all

Hi SA - I was really touched by your recent post about getting the unexpected £35 spare and trying to find things to fill your time instead of spending. I went br on 9 March and am getting Or interview just short of a couple of weeks time so having times of ok-ness and times of worry and tearfulness, because I dont know yet what will happen with my house and car.
My name was in the local paper this week and since then Ive been shaky, but im very encouraged by you and so many other people on this forum. Br it seems for the most, is not an easy option but can give us hope - its hard to let go of some things in our lives - homes, material things and people (that we need to move on from), but sometimes getting through the really hard stuff brings us to a better place - thats what Im hoping for in the midst of this miry clay - hope you had a great Sunday - the horseriding must be fab:):j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0 -
Thanks for that post SA and enjoy the horseriding.

Good morning everyone.....
Day off today so I am catching up with the board as I missed reading anything yesterday. In their wisdom my bosses gave me a new computer to use yesterday and it spent the whole day crashing! In my line of work I need to work very fast and every time it went it was of course the worst possible time....
I have left the IT dept to deal with it today. Unfortunately they spend more time "looking into it" than mending it! Think positive SA
Grand National next week - it needs to be working properly.
Horse riding today, highlight of my week, and of course The Apprentice starts again tonight. I do love that programme.
A little black cloud decided to sit over my head for the last couple of days but it has passed and I am feeling better - I have an appointment with my counsellor tomorrow, that usually helps. Reading headoutofsand's thread on his OR interview was hilarious as well - really made me smile.
Finally, while I was getting the paperwork ready for the OR, I stumbled across something that I could have done without.
Two years ago, my company overpaid me by a few hundred pounds. This was because everyone was paid one months overtime twice. It always appears on my payslip as overpayment and has never been taken back. I have decided that I will work extra overtime over the next 3 or 4 months to pay it back in one go. I am not going to say anything to my employers in case they take it all at once and leave me without enough money to live on. Over the next few months, while I am BR, I will work extra hours and pay it back as soon as I have the full amount.
They are not creditors, it was a genuine mistake on their part, and I always thought it had been paid back, but it seems not. Now seems a good time to do it. So that is the plan. Getting my house in order, so to speak.
Not sure whether to inform the OR or not, I will probably wait until it is done and showing on the payslip as refunded.
Payday this weekend, and for the second month in a row ... a little bit of money in the bank account from last months wages.... I could get used to this... It seems strange not seeing a bank balance with the letters OD written beside it.
Have a good day everyone....

Hi SA.
I am glad your black cloud has passed over. How's the book - worth recommending or not really?
I know what you mean about the money at the end of the month. I had a disaster in January but since then my balance has started to float up off the rocky bottom of my OD limit, like a submarine that has some bouyancy at last.
In fact it has given me a spending itch. But I'm not going to scratch it. I've learned my lesson on that. Only took 47 years. LOL.
Have a great afternoon.

Hi Jim,
The book is OK - it is based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and isn't too "heavy". They also have a website www.livinglifetothefull.co.uk that links to it. The most difficult thing is finding a time to actually do it - impossible during the working day, and after work I usually find other things to do, or just veg in front of the telly. I need to prioritise!
Off horseriding in 10 minutes, speak soon....

:A :A Hi SA,
Hope you had a lovely time horseriding. Your job sounds quite exciting, all these different sports events! I like the Apprentice too, but missed it! Have one day at work to go, then the weekend to look forward to.
Hope I can one day get the 'quiet' feeling you describe in an earlier post... life is too busy and confusing right now!
Looking forward to your next update!0 -
Hi everyone,
Stuck at work, fed up and miserable and face the prospect of getting the bus home at the end of a long shift at 9.20pm. The bus stop is a 15 minute walk away. The car, you ask ................?
Well, a new exhaust was fitted on 23rd Feb (£140) and as if that wasn't a bad enough dent on my new financial regime, the catalytic convertor has now gone and the car is stuck in the local kwik fit. How much this time - it should be £450 but they are doing it for £300 ..... I think this may be something to do with me bursting into tears in the middle of the workshop yesterday morning!
So in just over a month - £440 on car repairs and I get the princely sum of £30 a month on my SOA. The service and MOT are due in June, hey ho. Because I just can't do without it for work I have had it done, luckily today is payday, and I will just have to do what I can to make up the deficit. I shall ring the OR office on Monday and get their agreement for me to work some extra overtime to make this money up.
It really put the icing on the cake for what has been a pretty awful week ..... whoever said it was going to be easy eh?
Two steps forward, two steps back ..............
