wOULD YOU BUY TESCO VALUE WHOLE CHICKEN OR FROZEN CHICKEN PIECES?

I buy bags of frozen, skinless chicken breasts from Aldi. They are great, I defrost them before I cook them and will either make a casserole out of them or cook them in my remoska and serve them with veg and gravy or chips and gravy. Mum introduced me to them as when she found out how skint I actually was she gave me a food parcel and these were in there. I have since bought more packs of my own and use them a fair bit. The breasts are varying sizes and they taste just fine.
Can you remember the cost of the breasts from Aldi and the size of bag please?

i have had a bag from Aldi with no added water think it was about £3.99 or £3.79 for 700g, they also do a cheaper heavier bag but that contains added water.
Last time I was in I think the prices I quoted may have been reduced slightly as may have seen a red label above them in the freezer0 -

Thanks. Are they good sized and cook up okay? Also, are they salty? I find some of the frozen breasts slightly salty?
Sorry for all the questions.

Hi, they are good sizes although I do find there is one or two in the pack that are smaller
I dont eat them but no one has ever said they are salty0 -
I buy free range and organic chicken breasts or whole chickens - 90% of the time I buy them reduced. However, if I wanted chicken and had none in the freezer then I would pay full price for organic/ free range chicken - I will not eat the value stuff and avoid eating chicken when out unless the restaurant says about it's policy on chicken.
In the same way I only buy English bacon - my favourite from a supermarket is Spoiled Pig and I refuse to buy the watery stuff. I prefer to buy from an organic butcher at the farmer's market.
Mince - I either buy local organic mince or scottish lean steak mince
My opinion is both from a moral view and a taste view. When budgets have been pushed to the max we would simply eat less meat - but most of my meat is bought reduced anyway.I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Much the same as my policy, except for the mince & no local farmers' market, but I am very aware that not all have the money I have so "value" chicken is unfortunately the only option for many, and I do not blame them for Hobson's choiceNumerus non sum0 -
            Hello,
I would be grateful for advice on budget frozen chicken fillets.
I tried the ones from ASDA yesterday, and they were horrendous. I don't know what this white slime is, but it prevents the chicken from cooking properly on my griddle.
Some say Tesco's value range is better.
What are your experiences?
Please note that I am not willing to eat total rubbish, i.e. if it's just not possible to buy decent grillable chicken for £4/kg, then I'll accept this and look for other workable alternatives.
Thank you for talking time to reply and advise.0 -
We use the ones from ALDI.
Quite happy with them. Slice them and use them on the G F. Grill or diced in a curry sauce (Also from ALDI)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Aldi's are pretty good as aruba said. They have less water in them to make up the weight, so better quality etc.To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0

I used to buy frozen chicken fillets, either tesco or iceland, but they weren't great if i'm honest lots of water added so they shrunk and then tasted dry, i manily used them in casaroles and currys.
If you have a makro near you they do 5kg of chicken breasts for £21 these are much nicer and around £1 per fillet but we find we use less as there so big and don't shrink and it tastes better, def worth the money imo.DEC GC £463.67/£450
