maybe it's my eyes, but i can see a difference between SD, Good SD, HD (720p) and HD (1080p), regardless what tv it is on0

I would argue that the OP does probably have a very good TV, which will show a good SD picture, hence there being little difference between HD and SD.
I firmly believe that those that see a huge difference probably have TV's that are not capable of showing a good quality SD picture, they then do notice a big improvement when watching HD material.
Makes sense.
Although sd from Panasonic ain't too bad at all (I'm critical....ish) the hd blows it away.
Even differences in sd transmition quality too, sky sd football is very good while itv football is mediocre at best0 -
I watch SKY HD on my Panasonic fullHD tv and even tough SKY only broadcasts at 720p, you definitly CAN tell the difference...
If you can't see any noticeable difference, ask yourself the following:
- Have you got a FullHD TV or at least 720p?
- Whats the refreshrate of your TV?
- And what are the blacks like?Debt free from January 2019 - Paid off £31,161.70 in 7 years.10 year anniversary0 -
Notice also how the OP said that he could hardly tell a difference when it was first connected even though he was watching through a hdmi cable (A clear step up from scart)
But not for SD !
I have had an HD TV for a couple of months. The picture on HD (Freesat) is absolutely stunning, almost 3D at times. However, the picture on SD via the HDMI is very soft, this is often referred to in hardware reviews on most recievers. Putting in a Scart lead (for SD) made a noticeable improvement. But further experimentation now has me with HD only being fed from the HD receiver and everything else from a pre -existing stand alone staellite receiver fed from a motorised dish - SD picture (on Freesat channels) is very good.
I think a lot of reported problems with HD are purely down to incorrect installation and set up, not with failings in the hardware.
And - dare I say it ? women seem totally incapable of seeing ANY difference between top quality HD and rubbish SD ! there, I've said it0 -
We've got a Pioneer plasma (believed to be one of the best if not the best makes of plasma).
I agree, I can't see much difference either:think:
Hubby reckons he can though:rolleyes:0 -

Am I right in thinking that youve set the sky box to upscale as opposed to letting your tv do it?:idea:0 -

Pioneer have the best scalers going. Make sure UPSCALING is switched off so that your tv does it:idea:0 -
Some tvs are simply cr*p with hd content. It could be that its NOT setup correctly (Some of these 'engineers' dont have a clue). It could be your watching through the aerial connection instead of hdmi etc etc
i won't argue with that!
had mine 'installed' last week and he just ran a cable round the fish tank instead of through the hole where it should go. When i got round to sorting it out it was connected by HDMI and the SVideo cable.0
