Blockbuster DVD fine...

  • If you're a long time customer and it rarely has happened maybe they will reduce or cancel the fine. Our problem is 'weekly' hires. OH quiet often does it with games and he's forever forgetting whether he hired it out on a Friday or Saturday night.

2 weeks ago he returned 1 on the Friday night, but forgo he'd hired out 2 games, we found it in his pile of xbox games on the Saturday and returned it, obviously 1 day late.

Last week when we hired out 3 for £10 for 3 nights they took off the late charge because of what we were hiring out, we didn't even have to ask they just said where taking the charge off for you.

Granted it is our only time we've sent anything back late since we opened the account 4 yrs ago.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but I think the actual cost based on 3 days at £10 for 3 DVDs would be £16.67 for 5 days.

Calc as £10/3 multiplied by 5.

This equates to approx £1 per day per dvd - but you've accepted this was a special offer. There fine relates to approx £2 per day per DVD which is closer to their normal pricing structure and IMHO seems quite fair.

Unfortunatley we all have busy lives, many of us work, all of us have to find time to pay bills and deal with life's troubles. Some of us get time to watch DVDs, others don't. A risk with making a commitment to return something on a said date is that you may be fined for not being able to do so.

i think OP has got fed up of hearing the truth.

ok, larger scale example to bring it home.....

hiring a car.....if you dont bring it back by the return deadline...they will charge you, you would expect that, its the companys property, not yours, just because its in your possession doesnt give you the right to do whatever you want with it.

no matter how stressful your job or long your hours this is not an excuse.
OP i applaud the job you do, there arent many who would have the commitment and patience to do what you do on a daily basis but in this case you are wrong. yes we are here to help, but we cannot help when you are in the wrong, no matter how you justify it.

there are a lot of good people on this board, and always willing to help, so dont give them such disrespect and attitude when its clearly not their fault.

harsh, but you have the wrong attitude about these boards. when you actually need help then we are here.

I remember once, I forgot to return the Wedding Singer back and found it hidden in the sofa about a month later, they wanted a £70 fine, so I told the manager that this other girl who worked there told me not to worry about it as she will write it off. The manager couldnt prove it and had to honour it and the fine was wiped.

I used to use Lovefilm to rent DVD's when I was unemployed, it was quite good as I would get their 3 titles a day, watch them once a day and post them back in the last post and lovefilm would send out some more titles the next day when they got them back.

Then one day I got an e-mail from Lovefilm calling me a 'heavy user' as I had rented so many DVD's in a month, I had brought down average rental cost per title to 67p and it was costing them money to keep me as a subscriber, so they terminated my account.

I never worked out how they could afford to offer 24 to 36 films per month for £13.
