i rent dvds weekly from BB and on Friday evening, as i was renting another they advised me that there was a £2 fine on my account for late return.

I advised them this was certainly not the case and the 7 years ive held my account ive never been late. The last DVD was returned at 21:55 last sunday evening and said that i was happy to wait for them to check the CCTV which would confirm this.

No problem he said and the fine was removed from my account. they were claiming i had sent the DVD back monday at 16:30![/quote

If your watch says 21:55 and could be say 5 mins slow and b/b clock says 10:01 - 1 minute fast then you have missed the last check in, I would suggest returning them earlier, the staff do have homes to go to and if everyone waited until the last minute to return then they'd be working very late.
  • Why is it always 'extortion' and 'unfair' when it doesn't go the way of the person involved?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

And this is where Blockbuster employees will show compassion and understanding. I was usually in the shop until 10.20-10.30pm because people think it's ok to drop off DVDs any time between 10 and 10.30pm. Even when we'd taken the tills offline and therefore couldn't check films in, if someone dropped one off we would empty the drop box and leave a note for the morning staff to remove the fine from the account because it was left last night.

I'm sure there are some that enforce the rules to the hilt, but most BB workers know that by removing the odd £2 fine to polite and friendly customers, they will keep coming back.
  • I use lovefilm. never had a fine!

If you'd gone to our local video shop, you'd have been £27 to rent 3 new films for 3 nights. If you'd been 5 days overdue returning them you'd be fined £45. And by overdue, I mean the newest releases have to be returned by 2pm the following day or you get fined.

The way I see it if someone is nice and polite then I will try my best to help them. If someone came in shouting there mouth off that they had returned x DVD off by said time then I would flat out refuse to credit off because if it wasn't checked in it probably wasn't on time.

well thanks...and there i was thinking this was a forum that provided a bit of sensible advice and empathy for people in the same financial situation...guess i was wrong!

the worst offenders (Paparika / chuckley / Willsnarf1983 / snuggles) again in my defence, mondays to fridays my bum generally does not touch my sofa...by the time i have finished my working day and eaten something then it is straight to bed because i am exhausted...

and yes working for a charity does have soemthing to do with it because i spend my entire day working with adults who have autism which is physically and emotionally very draining!

so forgive me that i firstly am not able to spend my entire day chanting a mantra to remind me take the dvds back to blockbuster and secondly that i earn so little for doing this demanding job that i have asked for some advice about if theres anything i can do about the fine i have received...

of course i will pay it if there is no alternative and i will probably never rent a dvd again now i know how much it costs for a late fee!

everyone else thank you for taking the time to reply to me...at least you had some constructive suggestions to make!

Erm, not sure why I am described as an "offender". You posted on a forum for advice, and my advice was that the fine was reasonable in the circumstances and I would just pay up.

I guess this isn't what you wanted to hear but such is life, no need to get so agitated about it.As others have also pointed out, we all have busy jobs and busy lives, and I'm not sure why you seem to think you deserve special consideration because of this. The world doesn't owe you a favour just because you have a stressful job.

How can you forget 3 dvd's that's probably been sat on your coffee table or on top of your dvd player for not a day but 5!!!

you've stopped the shop renting them out to other people for 5 days so thats a loss to blockbuster, i stopped using the shop because i could never watch what i wanted because it was always out... least i know who has em now

pees me off ppl don't read the T & C, can't be arsed to take something back on time then have the cheek to complain

Where is the guarantee that they would have rented them?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

    Irrelevant.

What was "guaranteed" by the OP keeping them was they couldn't rent them.

Bear in mind that these are films have fairly recently come out

would suggest to me there could be a higher demand for these as well
