Blockbuster DVD fine...

Hi all,

In the interest of saving the pennies ive been stopping in a lot more lately and maybe treating myself to the odd rented DVD to watch. Recently me and my boyfriend took advantage of Blockbusters 3 DVDs for 3 nights for £10...

I work full time for a charity and have all the fun of managing my mortgage and paying all my bills etc etc....sometimes something will slip my mind and I forgot to take the DVD's back to blockbuster...it happens!!

Anyway when i went to take them back into blockbusters today i was told that as they were 5 days late my fine was £30!! :eek: I could have BOUGHT the DVD's for that much! Apparently its £2 per DVD per day...

Surely this is extortion...If its a case of covering losses Blockbuster could have made by renting these out to someone else then I figure, using the cost to them is £13.33

Bear in mind that these are films have fairly recently come out and in my local store they have shelves and shelves of each of the DVD's I rented so definately not a shortage...

I vaguely remember signing their contract thing when getting my Blockbuster card ages but think ive lost it so i cant check what i actually signed up to...

I haven't yet paid the fine...Does anyone know if I have any rights to protest the amount to get it reduced?

Ive dug out my T&Cs, that does seem to be their policy.
However in my experience most of the time if you are a regular customer you can just apologize and they wont enforce the fine.
How long have they given you to pay it?

How can you forget 3 dvd's that's probably been sat on your coffee table or on top of your dvd player for not a day but 5!!!

you've stopped the shop renting them out to other people for 5 days so thats a loss to blockbuster, i stopped using the shop because i could never watch what i wanted because it was always out... least i know who has em now :rolleyes:

pees me off ppl don't read the T & C, can't be arsed to take something back on time then have the cheek to complain

I can understand being a day late taking DVDs back, but five? To be honest I think £30 is a fair charge for 3 DVDs for five extra days. I would just pay up.

Having regard to all the circumstances I think it is a reasonable fine..

are you pricing the £13.33 using the 3 for 3 nights for £10 price?
the fine works out a £6 per day which is £2 per film
seems reasonable to me
i havent rented e instore for years but i guess its £2+ for a new film?

ha ha stop your moaning and pay it!, as someone said before you prevented other people renting the films out (whether there were dvds on the shelves or not)

I've been stung by a big fine of £18 for 3 dvds for 3 days but it was my fault so i paid it

Try one of the online film rental sites. You pay a fixed fee per month depending on how many discs you want. They post them out and you can keep it as long as you like before posting it back, so there are no late fees.

If the store had rented them to other customers at full price then would have got £4 for 2 nights on each which equates to £2 per night which is what you were charged. You could try and negotiate depending on the store you visit.

last i checked BB did rentals for 2-3 days max... why u thought u could keep it for 5 days PAST this is beyond me..

pay up and learn from your mistake.
