lovefilm offer this service as well0 -
Blockbuster on-line is better than lovefilm in my experience. Quicker to send out and quicker to acknowledge return.
£10 a month for unlimited films; if you find you cannot watch them on the day you get them record them onto VHS and play at a later date. A bit naughty but I never save the VHSs once I have watched them.
I get through around 11 films a month0 -
VHS? why the hell would you want to go through all the hassle of transferring to a lossy format like VHS?
just get the films you want and watch them as you can0 -
Why VHS?
Because if I waited to when I could watch them on DVD they would be sitting around for days. Then I would get to see less films. Remember this is a money saving forum!0 -
I thought it was impossible to copy DVDs to VHS due to some clever security feature... do you have an old video recorder - they are not susceptible to this.

it costs the same whether you watch 1 or 100
i would rather watch one in quality than 10 in crap quality
its like those people who buy new releases filmed with camcorders in the cinema
why bother, just wait to watch it in proper quality0 -

Not in my experience. Just have the scart going from the DVD into the VHS rather than the TV. Then have a SCART from the VHS to TV.
Custardy seems to be doubting my saneness by doing this.
We watch most films on DVD through our LCD/home cinema (We have blue-ray as well) and if you are watching a blockbuster like Indiana Jones of course you want to watch it through DVD/home cinema to get the full benefit of the picture and the surround sound. If you are watching a film like Hunger (which is basically a TV film) the loss in quality in picture or sound in watching it through VHS is absolutely minimal. Especially when the home cinema decodes the sound back into near 5.1.
If anyone thinks it is the same as camdcordered pirate movies they haven't got a clue.
Doing it my way means we get to see 11 to 12 films a month for a £10 (7 to 8 on DVD and 3 on VHS copies) . If we waited until we all could watch the film we would be lucky to see 7.
Also if we copy to VHS we can send the film straight back the same day and then we get the next film quicker.
Anyway my original post to the OP was to show that there is a much cheaper and to my mind better way of renting DVDs.0
