Clothes are around the same price here, but gadgets...... they are so much better value there.

The best thing to do is to check the prices first here to see how much saving you are going to make and decide whether it is worth it.

Stay away from those 'tourist' shops in Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bag etc., better go to the big chain such as Broadway or Fortress for electronic goods.

There is a Computer Shopping Mall in Mongkok where you can get most computer stuff at good price.

They don't have sales tax nor import tax there on most goods, that is why you can get good bargains there.
  • [glow=red,2,300]Did exactly the same - out on the 10th, back on 14th, same times as you. Using my PriorityClub points to stay in the Holiday Inn. Wife was well made up when I told her last night[/glow]

Do you mind telling me how much you have paid for the hotel ( I think I might have an old prioriyclub points membership). My missus chuffed to, should clear the way to a week away with the lads :-)
The best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten
  • Ian (and anybody else who hasn't been to HK before),

As malamala said, stay away from the camera and electronic shops up Nathan Road ...... unless there's at least three of you - one to hold the camera (or whatever), one to keep their hands on the box and accessories, and one to follow the credit card. And even then, I'm sure you'll get ripped off!

The best places to buy are the stores up the New Territories where the HKers themselves live, but since you'll only be there for a couple of days, it's too much trouble. Stick to Nathan Street night market for some cheap rubbish, and then over to Stanley market for some nice tourist stuff. My advice is don't try to buy something just to save money - Argos is frequently cheaper, even if the model is a little more dated.

And despite my above advice, I'd go with a nearly emply suitcase just in case something catches my eye!

It's 25k points per night for virtually all of the hotels in Manhattan, think the Intercontinental is 30k. Have decided to go for the Crowne Plaza, so it's 100k. Only have 83k at the moment, should be alright by the end of next week.

Where's the new territories? I'm there for two weeks, so I could probably wonder up there. I was thinking about getting a digital camera or an ibook, but it'll probably be too much hassle. I think I'll get the credit limit set 1k, so someone can't run up a huge bill if they skim my card or something.
  • What do you think of this hotel: http://www.accomline.com/DirectHotel.asp?id=2678&ncl=&Checkin=2005-3-11&Checkout=2005-3-14 in the new territories its seems good value at £26 a night.

Just wondering how easy it would be to get there, get to and from the airport ect. I'm travelling alone and staying three days.

Thanks for all the advice before :)
