I think we'll find that this is the reason, possibly caused by the Xmas/New Year bank holidays when paying the statement before last.

This was discussed on the dvdf and it happened to someone else too.
  • I've already said it was paid on time. The message from Egg states that interest was applied because I didn't pay by Direct Debit, and no other reason.
  • Not sure we have the full facts.. I think you need to give the experts on here some more details...

    1. Have you paid the previous couple of months balances in full and not paid interest in the past couple of months?
    2. Do you only use your eggg card for purchases, or have you done any Balance Transfers that had not been repaid?
    3. By what date should your payments been made been allocated to your egg account?
    4. What dates did the payments actually reach your egg account?
    5. Any unusual activities on your account etc? e.g. you had refunds made on your account, disputes etc.

    Thanks!

it might have to do with when they generate statements as that can be on a different day to when they take payment. If you send the money agfter this you could still get interest charged.

Best bet is email them again, call them muppets and ask them to answer your question. I did this about something and got a decent reply rather than a cut and paste one.
    Nice to save.

Would get straight onto the phone to them, what they told you is outrageous!!

If they don't refund the charges (which I think they will) then threaten to cancel anything you can with them!!!

Let us know how you get on!

  • Right I spoke to them today and got the interest charge refunded in full (only after speaking to the supervisor), but they said that this new policy will apply for the future. They said that they sent out a leaflet to everyone last month informing us of the change but I don't remember receiving it. Needless to say I won't be using the card for future purchases.

I don't remember getting any leaflet. Time to bin the Egg I think.
  • I don't remember getting a leaflet either, I haven't used my Egg card for a couple of months (since clearing the balance) and after reading this thread I'll be ditching Egg too!
